I'm sorry Crosshair, you could NOT be more wrong, Romney was a classic spoiled Richie Rich fop, just like the old Python "upper class twit" sketch. Just off the top of my head, and there were DOZENS on YouTube you can pick from BTW, there was the "ugly car" story where he talked about how he "had it hard in HS and college, why i had to drive this ugly car!" and then someone showed what his "ugly car" was, it was a BRAND NEW luxury sedan straight from the showroom floor, there was the "i'm unemployed too, snicker snicker" bit, there was his wife with her "Why we were so broke in college we had to live on our stock dividends, can you believe it?" bit, hell I could spent FIVE MINUTES on YouTube and find a couple of dozen more.

Romney didn't have a prayer because he was a Grey Poupon fop, simple as that. he had been rich since the day he popped out the womb and frankly had NO CLUE on how to actually relate to anyone that didn't have a couple of million in the bank, and how could he? he had NEVER been around a poor person in his life! He was rich, his wife was rich, he went to rich schools and hung out with rich friends, he was as clueless as Bush Sr with the scanner, he simply has had maids and servants and luxury cars and summer homes his whole life and just couldn't understand why his "little stories" completely turned off the electorate.

Oh and let us not forget the man flip flopped more than a bass thrown on the bank, you could find two completely different views on ANY given subject coming from him, just depending on which way the wind blew that day. Like him or not Obama has stayed pretty much in the same middle-left area the entire time, Romney wanted the job so bad he swung WAY the hell to the right during the primary, so far right that he was unelectable, and then tried to swing back to the center after the primary was over...it just didn't work, it made him look like a two faced rich boy saying whatever you wanted to hear to get the job.

So I'm sorry Crosshair, like 'em or hate 'em the two couldn't have been more different.

Would it make the devs quit acting like douches and breaking the drivers? Nope because its not GPL V3 so they wouldn't be "supporting the spirit of Open Source" and the devs would go right on being douches.

And sure AMD "just works" if you mean "Works like a card from 7 years ago" because again a HUGE section of the chip CAN NOT be accessed because UVD, which if you'll go look its actually a pretty damned big component of the APUs especially, simply can't be accessed without risking breaking HDCP and getting AMD chips blacklisted. You know what the FOSS devs are doing? You can go and look it up, its an UGLY hack that is using the shaders for hardware acceleration, like the old X19xx cards did. So you will waste MORE power on Linux than in Windows, make MORE heat, and will have a lower battery life, all because the devs won't quit being douches and breaking the damned binary drivers!

Well my truck gets 20 miles to the gallon, well my car gets 34.../Linux user/ Well my rowboat gets a billion!...WHAT THE FUCK does that have to do with the conversation? Serious WHAT does servers have a damned thing to do with desktops, which was the SUBJECT?

Its actually very simple, Linux works on servers in spite of the devs not because of them, because Windows licensing is a hedgemaze of restrictions and they keep raising the costs it is CHEAPER to pay some guy 6 figures to deal with all the Linux bullshit, maybe even hire the guys that broke the subsystems to fix it. That is NOT a credit to Linux, that is just how greedy and stupid MSFT runs the WinServer division. If they were to switch to a three tier license and no user CALs? Mark my words they'd slaughter Linux, but they make so much money as it is they simply don't care, not with Ballmer wanting to be the head of Apple and caring only about phones and tablets.

so I'm sorry but not only can Nvidia NOT go GPL but the suggestion you have would fix absolutely nothing, because if anything was made perfectly clear on past statements its that the FOSSie camp in the devs will accept nothing less than 100% GPL compliance, and your idea would be like having the first and last line of a book in free print and the rest redacted. The only way they could "open" shit would be to do like AMD and just leave the most powerful parts of the chip completely black box, which would make the performance difference between a new Nvidia chip and a 4 year old one negligible, and would be completely pointless since ALL of the major parts that people actual run Nvidia cards on Linux for, the GP-GPU support, would be gone anyway.
