Uhhh...the girls that went into a store and one of them jammed a chicken up her pussy? Oh and that drew a giant dick...no that would actually be doing SOMETHING, in actuality they stood around while some guy drew a giant dick on a bridge so when it raised the bridge got a hard on..THAT pussy riot?
Look I think the moron frankly shouldn't have gotten more than a standard B&E and tresspassing but the PR girls are just that...PR whores that tried dumbass stunt after dumbass stunt trying to get anybody to give a fuck about them.
So lets not treat the publicity whores like they were some freedom fighters okay?
Oh please! What is the ONLY other mass product you see people standing in line and paying above retail to get their hands on yearly? Why that would be...drumroll for effect...Air Jordans.
Look I have NO problem against fashion I've been known to indulge in fashionable purchases from time to time myself. If the product makes you happy? Who cares if it is fashion!
But at least have the BALLS to admit that its all fashion and personal preference, instead of jumping through insane logic hoops trying to "prove" that Apple's 45%+ markup on products makes them a "good value" because its bullshit.
I personally like Pepsi, ford trucks, Asus notebooks, Samsung hard drives and Asrock motherboards. Do you see me coming up with logic hoops to "prove" they are "better" and the other products "worse" because of my choice? Nope its a personal preference.
Personally I think the reason Appleites can't give up the logic hoops is there is a doubt there. there is a little niggling doubt sitting on their shoulder whispering "Its not worth this much" and rather than just accept that you don't care you have to make logic hoops to jump through to justify that purchase. Want to see a comic that NAILS the iPad mindset? Here you go, enjoy. Funny that even the cartoonist knows its fashion but you still don't.
Thank you AC I thought I was the only one! The millisecond I saw the headline all i could think of is all the devs from great software houses that ran screaming after spending time in the PHB hell that is EA. Is there any of the guys from Bullfrog or Westwood or any of the greats they bought still hanging around?
And I would bet my last dollar the reason they are "retiring from gaming" is that EA made them sign a no compete clause when they bought the company. Watch in 5 years or so they'll come out of "retirement" with some killer new game from a fresh idea that EA told them wouldn't make a new Call Of Halo: Gears of Killzone cookie cutter franchise, since that seems to be pretty much all they care about anymore.
Websites are all fanboys, actual DEVELOPERS OF THE FUCKING PRODUCTS are "reference to authority"...do you realize that you have done EXACTLY like a religious loonie and made little logic hoops that no sane and rational argument can possible contradict? Hmmm...where have I heard this before? Oh that's right its the circle of the loon which is so fricking old its one of the first TMs. Congrats on sticking with the classic Alex.
Enjoy your crazy you fricking FOSSie, pretend the numbers don't suck balls which for a product that has been given away FREE FOR TWENTY YEARS is almost laughably pathetic, but of course i'm sure you'll talk about all the invisible people that aren't counted, or come up with some lame ass excuse about how the air traffic controllers in Zimbabwe use linux (like anybody gives a shit or that it has shit to do with desktops) but you go right back to living that delusion Alex...oh and watch out for the black choppers.
BTW if you want to see how the world sees YOU personally? Here you go which give the Penny Arcade guys credit, they fucking NAILED the typical FOSSie, basement dwelling and all.
While this is technically true there is no reason in hell they couldn't use those same towers to support WISP and give them actual decent throughput. My mom and nephews are on WISP and I have to say considering their choices was that or Hughesnet (shudder) I'm quite impressed, 4Mbps throughput and lag free enough to game and watch videos, not bad.
Sooner or later somebody over there is gonna figure this out and become the AT&T of WISP, all the conditions are right over there for their own digital explosion, its just gonna take someone with the vision to see the potential.
And what OTHER mass market item do you see this behavior on? could it be...Air Jordans?
In BOTH cases you have people lined around the block for a product they have never seen, held, and in fact know VERY little about other than the branding, often while having last year's model on their person. They then pay frankly insane prices and are even willing to pay several times MORE than retail to be one of the first to have it, see those that were reselling iPads and Air Jordans on release day, while previously not having a bad word to say about the product they are replacing it with.
You see this is why I can't fucking STAND Apple fanbois. If you like fashion, if fashion makes you happy? Then please, enjoy, if this makes you happy then I am happy for you. But stop JUMPING THROUGH LOGIC HOOPS coming up with one less believable excuse after another how the iCandy is NOT fashion while you display every single behavior that the hip hoppers do with the Air Jordans, right down to the lines on release day or rushing to pre-order sight unseen.
Just admit that its fashion and BE HAPPY already! You know why I think they can't stop jumping through logic hoops? Because I think there is a little doubt sitting on their shoulder whispering "you paid too much" so the ONLY way they can try to soothe that doubt is to not only lie to themselves and pretend its not all about branding or fashion but to try to get everyone else to believe that not only is it NOT fashion, like Gucci or Prada, but that they HAD to have made the right choice and anybody that doesn't see that is "buying crap". Its elitist bullshit and if they were actually happy and comfortable with their purchase frankly they shouldn't give a fuck that its fashion!
Uhhh...nice theory, except the local forestry dept has been promoting renewable pine farms over harvesting old growth trees so one would think they'd want you to use more of the renewables?
Meh I ended up with a fistload of those nice metal cased kingston 4gb sticks, fast enough for Readyboost while having a connector that makes it easy to pop on a keyring. whatever they are going for I can't say a bad thing about these sticks, sure have lasted longer than my damned 16gb data traveler..damned POS data traveler.
Easy way to get them off IE, without having to resort to Kubuntu (which is a BAD idea unless you want to be their 24/7/365 tech support BTW, because they'll drive you batshit wanting some Windows this or that software to run or because something is "acting funny" which is actually its default behavior and just different) is to give them Comodo Dragon with ABP and the ForecastFox extensions.
This way they have a browser that's fast like Chrome but with no phone home, if you take the default option that has the browser go through Comodo Secure DNS it blocks automatically the malware ad servers and other nasties, is close enough to Chrome that Chrome plugins and extensions work while still being below the radar enough nobody is targeting it, and both it and IceDragon (their own fork of Firefox) will autoupdate and take care of everything for them.
I'm a firm believer in eating my own dogfood and I've been running it since V5 and we are now up to V21 and no problems, no hassles, in all those releases I found exactly one weird bug and by popping on their forums and posting what was happening I got a message from one of the devs actually apologizing for the bug (even though it was something Joe Average probably would have never encountered) and posting a workaround for me and anybody else that encountered it along with a promise to fix it in the next release...which they did.
Considering we are talking about a free product? I couldn't be happier with the browser or the service. Its fast, snappy even on the 1.8GHz Sempron I keep here in the shop as a nettop, has plenty of features for a guy like me while still having sane defaults for Joe Average, and once i started installing it over Firefox the amount of issues I've had to deal with has dropped like a stone and I have yet to see Dragon infected with a damned toolbar! Give it a try McGrew, your friends and family that switch will thank you for it.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha...You think MS OFFICE, on a CONSUMER device, will get those consumers to pay MORE than a status having iPad, with shitty specs to boot? Ha ha ha ha ha ha!
I am doing the dance of eternal happiness right now, as I actually thought for once in his miserable excuse of a career Steve Ballmer was gonna actually pull something off and force metrosexual on the world by selling this great pad below cost, thus actually giving MSFT an actual competitor to iPad and saving his ass...Bwa ha ha ha ha...damn I was fooling myself, Steve Ballmer can't do anything that smart!
Thus instead we have yet another chapter in the case that is "Steve Ballmer: I think my shit doesn't stink and have no understanding of the market so watch me foul it all up" saga. this is actually a great relief for me, as i figured one more Vista style megaflop might actually get MSFT's version of the Apple Pepsi guy the boot, but winRT with Ballmer shitting another billion down the toilet by trying the razor and blades model might have actually showed him to the board not to be incompetent....whew! Steve's massive ego pulled defeat from the jaws of victory yet again!
For those that would like some GREAT NEWS it is twofold: 1.-Steve Ballmer is gonna have another mega disaster by pricing himself right out of the market and may finally be FIRED like he should have been half a damned decade ago and more importantly 2.-Remember how you couldn't get one of those firesale Touchpads? Well thanks to Steve's massive ego and delusions of competence you'll be able to pick these up on Woot! in 6 months for $99 or less. Sure you can't put Android on it, but $99 for a quad tablet will be nice.
And the thing everyone seems to forget? NO INFRASTRUCTURE. With a cell phone they can actually reach the world, whereas a PC or a laptop is useless without software and without Internet where are they are gonna get the software to make it a useful system? Even Linux doesn't come with ALL the software to fill every need.
So I would say the ONLY reason they are "pre-PC" even with laptops so cheap and desktops even cheaper, is because without the miles of fiber or copper (which sadly in Africa we've seen the copper gets dug up and sold in many places almost as fast as they can lay it down) then its really not that useful for them. Ironically if the assholes running the networks would actually allow tethering they could use PCs, but then the network owners could make all that money on phone plans and overcharging for crappy phones.
I don't know Crosshair, I've quit buying Seagate because brand new 7200RPM drives from them frankly...sound like an F15 taking off.
Damned shame that Samsung sold out as their Spinpoint and EcoGreen drives are whisper quiet but reliable as hell and the big caches actually speed up performance which isn't what i saw with the Seagate drives. They run so well I swapped out my 7200RPM Seagate drives for 5400RPM EcoGreens and actually got a 30Mbps speed boost.
Yeah, I put this right beside those users that posted to tell me "Oh IE isn't fragmented, you just have to buy the latest OS to use it!" wow, really? No shit.
The sad part is I at this point really don't have much in the way of sympathy anymore for anyone using IE and getting boned. this is like a dog walking out in front of a car and getting hit again and again, sooner or later you just figure its Darwin's way of thinning the herd of the dumbasses in the breed.
The only nice thing I can say about IE is thanks to Steve "herpa derp" Ballmer cutting loose the IE team after IE 6 and just letting the damned thing rot we have more choices than ever so there really is no excuse. You've got Chrome and Chromium and Comodo Dragon in that line, Firefox and Kmeleon and Seamonkey and IceDragon in the Gecko line, then you have Safari and QTWeb and Opera.
Frankly we've got choice coming out of our asses folks, everyone can have the web THEIR way, so even though I like Dragon you might like Seamonkey or Opera and that's fine, you get the web YOUR way and I'll get my web my way.
But unless you are forced by a very stupid (or hamstringed by bad intranet apps) IT dept there really is no point running IE and as TFA demonstrates plenty of reasons not to. Its the #1 target by far because the malware writers know the truly clueless users, those that think that 30 day trial of Norton that expired 3 years ago equals having an antivirus and who will click on any damned thing, use IE because they don't know any better. For them IE users are easy pickings and again, Darwinism, they should have learned the first time they got burned.
This is why I no longer support IE in ANY way. Some customer tells me they have IE problems? i give them their choice of Dragon or IceDragon (Firefox spinoff) and THEN if they have a problem with it I'll help, but every. single. time. I've had a user tell me they have "A problem with Internet explorer" I open the thing up and its got more toolbars and other malware bullshit than you can even count, anybody stupid enough to use IE while the spyware and toolbars and other shit just keeps piling up deserves what they get.
Oh horseshit, I'm sure people use more TP than they do cloth napkins, do we see "Napkins are dead! Wipe your face with TP!" articles?
As someone who has been in the trenches since the 386DX here are the FACTS: 1.-Cell phones are disposable and given away or are at so low cost when they come with plan nobody takes care of them, ergo they get trashed often. 2.-On the opposite side you have the PC, which people actually DO pay for out of pocket instead of hidden by a plan and therefor take care of it, 3.-PCs are now insanely overpowered so like washers and dryers they aren't replaced until they die.
Now those are the facts. Now if you'll excuse me I have a customer bringing over a laptop that needs an OS reinstall, its 5 years old but no point in replacing a Core Duo with 3Gb of RAM over something as trivial as his GF hosed the OS. that is one other thing about PCs, they can actually be worked on whereas cell phones are so cheap and disposable they simply aren't worth the effort, they're designed for the dump.
But that is like saying "While clothing store close Prada has had a GREAT year"...uhhh...so what? Its a fashion brand that sells to a specific high end market, comparing it to tech is like comparing how Ferrari does as an indication of the car industry.
Lets face it Cook could crap in a box and get 10K+ for it, its the nature of fashion. For proof seen the infamous iPhone 4 (Ur holding it wrong) or the reviews of iPhone 5 saying its a big let down, both sold and will sell like mad, nobody cares about the hardware with Apple, its all fashion.
Uhhh...just get a hackentosh? Its not like its a big secret friend, tutorials all over the web, its just that you have to be a little more picky about your hardware because most things don't have Apple drivers.
Did you wait in line for the Air Jordans too? Apple frankly doesn't really have a place at the table when we talk hardware because they are FASHION, no different than Gucci and prada, its all about branding.
Look at how many reviews say the iPhone 5 is "Meh" yet again guys like you will stand in line, often with the last iPhone or Ipad in your hands, to shell out Apple's crazy 45%+ markup so you can be the first on your block to have the "new" iCandy. Was there something wrong with the last model? did you not say how wonderful it was when you bought it? Its not the "NEW!!!" version so its as unhip as last year's Jordans, that's all.
Exactly, I got MS Office 2K7 for attending a tech event, been handed more flash sticks than I care to count (even had some given to me by the forestry dept, still haven't figured out how flash sticks and forestry connect) and that's not even counting Moore's law making it increasingly cheap to just make the good chips instead of the junk. Hell I hand out flash sticks along with wireless keyboards and mice with my new builds, the things are so cheap that it isn't really costing me anything and the customers love the idea of getting "free" stuff.
I could easily see $25 7 inch pads and $50 10 inchers, with a decent dual core and 4-8Gb of memory, it'll simply be cheaper to mass produce those chips in such volume that the price plummets while still letting them make a profit. I mean why do you think all the monitors now are 1600x900 or 1080p? Because they crank those out for TVs so they're cheap. We see the same thing with 1366x768 in netbooks, they crank the hell out of those 12 inch screens for mini-TV and tablets and any other place where a big screen won't fit so they are again dirt cheap.
If you think you can get by on 60Gb or less? You are one of the less than 10% that don't run Windows. In another one of Ballmer's boneheaded moves all Windows since Vista has "anytime upgrade" which means it has ALL the files and ALL the patches of Windows Ultimate, even if its Basic or Home.
Because of this a fully patched Win 7 SP1 can easily get up into the 70s when it comes to Gbs and it sure as hell ain't easy to strip all that anytime upgrade shit out. Just one more way the marketing drones fuck up what should be a simple idea.
Must be a heck of a crappy HDD, as I can't hear the ones in my desktop nor my netbook, in both cases fans trump HDDs. of course i went Samsung Ecogreens in my desktop, those things are low heat and built like tanks and their large caches make them faster than the 7200RPM 500Gb Seagates they were replacing, but frankly the Seagates weren't noisy either, just hot. they would hit 120F+ under load and the EcoGreens barely reach 90f which when you are talking 2 drives spinning during transcoding does make a diff when it comes to temps.
There really isn't a point in making a 3.5 inch hybrid when you can just use an adapter and use the same drive in both. There really isn't anything to gain by making hybrids 3.5 inch, they aren't going for insanely large drives anyway.
Not to mention the same reliability and security issues we've been dealing with since it was called client/server.
I've found the best strategy is a multi-level backup solution. My customers have their important data on their systems, backed up to USB hard drives they carry off site (not large enough for tape drives to be viable) and in the cloud. This way even the worst events won't wipe out the data. Last year I had a customer who came back from vacation to find his business burned to the ground, he simply picked up the USB hard drive he had left with a relative before leaving and I slapped the data on one of my spares which i let him hang onto until he could get the insurance mess straightened out, he was back up and running before the end of the day.
So I don't think anything is replacing anything, at least not if you're smart. they all have their pluses and minuses, best to use them in concert for best results.
How about a Red Hat developer who says the desktop is suckage and broken? is HE a Microsoft fanboy too? And the Edubuntu developers? Are THEY fanboys?
That is why YOU sir are a FOSSie. Like a Moonie you have taken FOSS as a religion and like all religious zealots ANY statement that dares go against your God gets someone labeled a heretic. You would probably feel VERY comfortable in the ME right now, single minded religious zealotry is right up their alley. Maybe you should go? We certainly won't miss you.
I've been seeing that too, with insanely powerful GPUs becoming so cheap I've seen a lot of my SMBs going dual screen. The one I mentioned earlier running Solidworks on a Phenom I is looking at a second monitor as we speak. He has already decided to have me slap an HD4850 in his system, the drivers are stable and it accelerates the hell out of SW and has more than enough power to drive 2 screens. Cost? $40 for a new one.
But to say we are "post PC" is just retarded. maybe in the third world, where they've never had PCs before, they can just use a cell but everyone and their dog and their dog's squeaky toy has a PC here, they simply aren't buying new ones when everyone has triples and quads.
Hell I was Mr "Build a new PC every year" during the MHz wars and now? I'm running a Thuban 6 core that was released 3 years ago and the only reason I have it instead of my Deneb quad was it gave me an excuse to pass the quad to the youngest and get me a new toy. But in every task i do other than video transcoding (which I do do a lot but most don't) I can't tell the difference, both chips are insanely overpowered for the tasks I can come up with. Like another poster wrote when talking about chips "Its like we have a Ferrari to go to the grocery store and they are complaining we won't upgrade to an F16, what for?".

Assumption 4: He bought a shitty Seagate which sounds like an F15 taking off.
