A truly wise man once said "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants" and if things continue along this path, with ever swelling masses of the poor while the top 1% hold more than 90% of the country's wealth at last count? As for TFA as long as it has Neil Degrasse Tyson it will probably be quite good. I've watched several lectures of his and he really seems to have a knack for explaining pretty complex concepts without "dumbing down" the information being presented. Quite entertaining, of course that was one of the great gifts of Sagan as well, probably while they chose Tyson in the first place. I personally can't wait to see it as Cosmos was one of my favorite shows when I was a kid and to have a new generation brought up with Cosmos sounds like a damned fine idea to me.
Hey now don't pick on us truck owners. it may be different where you're at but in my area damned near everyone has a truck and that is because we HAUL STUFF in them! I haul everything from a months worth of groceries (I have a trunk I can pop on/off) to furniture to customers old PCs in my Ranger, my oldest is pretty much the "go to" guy at his college for those needing to move thanks to his S10, and my dad has his F350 loaded full of electrical equipment most of the time.

Hell I've seen them so low I doubt seriously they could go over a speed bump. On the flip side the Russians paid good money to the Chinese for the USA Sidewinder missile. Apparently when they first came out we gave some to Taiwan who were getting their F86s stomped by the faster MiGs. One actually stuck in a plane but didn't go off and they managed to land it. According to Wiki after the wall fell they called that sidewinder "A university course in modern missile design" and the version they cooked up was so damned much a copy of ours you could interchange parts and the missile worked. but that is no surprise as they copied the B29 after we refused to give it to them on lend lease but had to set three down there after bombing runs over Japan. Again this gave the Soviets a BIG boost to their bomber design.
Then you have the Israelis and the Mirage which they stole the plans to after the French hit them with an embargo to make the Nesher. And finally speaking of China they paid dirt farmers in Kosovo to go dig up the remains of our downed F117 which crashed there in the 90s so they could steal stealth technology, which they are using for their new stealth fighter.
So while you will get a few like Israel and Stuxnet most of this stuff is gonna end up about theft, pure and simple. If you can steal your potential adversaries (or even allies, there have been cases of Israel snatching tech that the USA didn't sell) technology not only does that give you an idea of what to expect but depending on your own tech can give you a BIG boost without the R&D costs. Hell it has been going on for ages. I'm sure we are currently setting up some "cyber command and control" that will look good for the press, but it isn't like the CIA and NSA haven't been doing the same shit for years and years, they just don't go blabbing about it. But if someone in the BRIC comes up with some whiz bang new military tech you can bet your last dollar if they won't sell it to us we WILL have it, one way or another, and they'll do the same to us. that is just how the game is played.

I think in the end the entire pron industry will probably have to shift to the myfreepaysite model, where they make their money on all the extras. with myfreepaysite they sell toys and lubes, they sell downloads, they sell webcam access, hell they probably have 3 dozen ways to make money on that site without charging to watch a video. With porn there are so many attention whores out there with webcams happy to post themselves up on porntube I just don't see how the porn industry will be able to compete with free unless they do like MFP and sell the extras and just use the porn to get them in the door.

You can say we need to "innovate" or that everyone needs "More education" (which I personally believe will be the next bubble to burst, we have saddled huge numbers of poor youth with student loans they will simply never pay back, ruining their credit and further holding them down) but you can't escape the truth, which is a factory that once took thousands of workers can be run completely by a couple of low wage drones watching the screens and pushing buttons. A truly wise man once said "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants" and if things continue along this path, with ever swelling masses of the poor while the top 1% hold more than 90% of the country's wealth at last count? Well I predict they'll be some watering in our future. There have been plenty of examples in history to what happens when wealth becomes to concentrated, too many poor. The French Revolution and Pol Pot come to mind, neither outcome was very pretty for the wealthy.
Well to be "fair and balanced" last I heard Mars temps have gone up too, and I don't think they have much CO2. while I'm all for cutting down on pollution (as long as it isn't cap & trade, which is just another big scam where "preferential companies" will get carbon credits handed to them and the rest of us get fucked) as we saw here in that article the other day where the temps and the models aren't lining up I think we need a little more work before we head down a path that will take wealth from billions and hand it to a handful.
As for TFA as long as it has Neil Degrasse Tyson it will probably be quite good. I've watched several lectures of his and he really seems to have a knack for explaining pretty complex concepts without "dumbing down" the information being presented. Quite entertaining, of course that was one of the great gifts of Sagan as well, probably while they chose Tyson in the first place. I personally can't wait to see it as Cosmos was one of my favorite shows when I was a kid and to have a new generation brought up with Cosmos sounds like a damned fine idea to me.
Hey now don't pick on us truck owners. it may be different where you're at but in my area damned near everyone has a truck and that is because we HAUL STUFF in them! I haul everything from a months worth of groceries (I have a trunk I can pop on/off) to furniture to customers old PCs in my Ranger, my oldest is pretty much the "go to" guy at his college for those needing to move thanks to his S10, and my dad has his F350 loaded full of electrical equipment most of the time.
And as for jacking up? Yeah while there is some kids that do it because they are dumbasses the majority of those I've seen LOWER not jack the truck. Hell I've seen them so low I doubt seriously they could go over a speed bump. And I've known guys that have jacked their trucks with good reason...hunting and managing a large property with woods and swamps. if you try to go down in those areas with a regular truck you aren't getting that sucker out without a tractor buddy!
And finally I'd remind you that TFA is showing how using government power, aka banning which you are suggesting, can be bad with a capital B. Just look at how we went from the nice Ranchero/ El Camino and station wagons to the monster SUVs thanks to CAFE. Personally I'd have rather been hit by a Camino or station wagon than one of those 6,000 pound SUV monsters, not to mention how much gas those suckers blow.

You DO realize that by your very own description that the VAST majority of Windows bugs "don't count" either? So while you will get a few like Israel and Stuxnet most of this stuff is gonna end up about theft, pure and simple. If you can steal your potential adversaries (or even allies, there have been cases of Israel snatching tech that the USA didn't sell) technology not only does that give you an idea of what to expect but depending on your own tech can give you a BIG boost without the R&D costs. Hell it has been going on for ages. I'm sure we are currently setting up some "cyber command and control" that will look good for the press, but it isn't like the CIA and NSA haven't been doing the same shit for years and years, they just don't go blabbing about it. I think in the end the entire pron industry will probably have to shift to the myfreepaysite model, where they make their money on all the extras. with myfreepaysite they sell toys and lubes, they sell downloads, they sell webcam access, hell they probably have 3 dozen ways to make money on that site without charging to watch a video.
