Well this is why I've never actually blocked anybody, hell until recently I had no idea about this whole "friend/foe" crap because honestly the thought never even crossed my mind that there would be a reason to label someone a "foe" simply because I didn't agree with their post.

I'm getting ready to move but once I'm settled in I'll be happy to try it with SUSE if you like but I hate to break the news to ya....its gonna fail. The problem is Torvalds driver model which worked fine in 1993 when every Linux driver could fit on a floppy simply does NOT scale to handle the literally tens of thousands of drivers that are now required of a modern OS. Look at this SUSE chart and compare it to Windows. Now if I take the oldest currently supported Windows OS, Vista, I can take the RTM and patch it to current and will have NO drivers break, for SUSE to do the same thing (thanks to how short the average Linux support cycle is) you would have to start with SUSE 10 and go aaaalll the way through to SUSE 12, that is NINE releases that you would have to upgrade to. I bet my last dollar that if I try this? Its gonna break, because Torvalds driver model is just too brittle to handle that many changes.

Its a thousand times worse with something like Ubuntu, which ironically is called the "user friendly" Linux as you would have to go from 6.10 to 15.04 because remember Canonical says that LTS is NOT for consumers but for business, which means consumers is expected to go through FOURTEEN upgrades in just the time Vista has been on the market! Even if you ignore Canonical and go LTS you are still looking a four upgrades which I can tell you from actually trying it what you'll get at the end is a broken mess!

If people want to call me names, or cyberstalk me like the "fat fuck" troll did? Go right ahead, but I made the Hairyfeet Challenge for a reason and that reason was simple...create a completely 100% bias free objective test to see if Linux can be a functional desktop when compared to Windows and I'm sorry but...it just can't and it all comes down to Torvalds refusing to let go of a broken driver model because...reasons. I mean anybody can do this test, you yourself can complete it within a few hours using any old box or laptop lying around or grabbed for a few bucks off of CL and all it asks of Linux frankly should be things that should be able to be taken for granted, like "if I keep this thing updated with the latest security patches will it remain functional?" and the answer is a big fat nope.

So if I made you think, or look at something from a different view, even if you thought I was full of shit? I'm glad. Sadly as I learned recently from coming into contact with some SJWs the younger generation really doesn't value speech or interaction with others of differing views, they want an echo chamber that reinforces their narrow views. Me personally I'd rather spend 10 hours arguing politics in a room with neo-nazis, black panthers, and bible thumpers than 10 minutes trapped in a room with an SJW, as at least the above groups don't try to take away anybody's right to disagree.

Because you would have nothing but groupthink as well as groups targeting individuals?

Not to toot my own horn but many of my posts are modded up, I guess because there are plenty of folks that appreciate somebody that doesn't pull their punches or sugarcoat their words in bullshit. I sit in my little shop, run tests, talk to folks, and report what I see trending around me. So why would your system be a problem? Because a certain faction here fucking HATES me, hatred to the point I was cyberstalked for over a year by one member of this faction who must have spent a good 12 hours a day doing nothing but searching the net for every place I posted just so he could spam "die you fat fucker die" over and over and over.

So what you would have is one group saying "We do not like this person, lets erase him" and then it wouldn't matter what this person posted large numbers would mark him troll and block him, which by your system would allow them to erase this person from the place. At least here we have metamods that tend to undo some, not all, of obvious modding based on the person not the content, but if they implemented your system all they would have to do is keep pounding and they could just wipe any person they didn't like from sight, not something you want to hand out to just anybody.

Come to think of it, one of the new sites I have been hanging out at tried something similar. Instead of the usual karma what they have is a points system. You make a popular post? You get points. You start at I think 25 and max out at 50, but where they screwed up was trying out this idea that every downmod would cost not only the modder a point but the one that was downmodded as well, and that once you went below a certain threshold your posts were automatically placed at zero and you didn't get any mod points.....can you guess what went wrong?

What went wrong was a radical SJW then joined the site and tried to make it an SJW haven. I know that the name SJW is sometimes thrown around without care, but in this case? We are talking about a white beta male that advocated the extermination of the white race and that only whites should be charged with hate crimes because of "historical racism" so...yeah classic SJW. He then took a page out of the classic Slashdot "Mikey(insert number)" playbook and made a shitload of accounts, posted just enough positive copypasta in each account to get them modded high enough to get mod points then proceeded to modbomb like there was no tomorrow. Things quickly soured there, some of the most popular posters ended up bailing, until finally the mods caught on and shut down his sockpuppet army and took away his rights to mod.

So the moral of the story? The reason why "great ideas" like yours haven't been tried is because you are not looking at it from the POV of an attacker. You ALWAYS have to look at these things from the angle of "If I wanted to wreck the site, how can I use this to my advantage?". Too many times you look at things like this and assume the users have the best intentions while forgetting there are probably just as many seriously unbalanced douchebags as there is legit users out there, so you have to plan accordingly.

Its because those topics are "safe", they won't expose any skeletons, its lets the politicians stump for or against without risking anything. They like stories like Wu because it gives you frankly a wealth of "first world problem" topics that are trivial and which won't cause a politician to risk anything. Congressman Porkus risks nothing if he comes out one way or another on feminism or a 150 year old flag, unlike risking votes and/or lobbyist money if we were to get on "real" issues. And what prosecutor is gonna wanna touch Wu? Why that might get me labeled an "ist" like sexist, transphobe, fuck that shit! Kiddies here may not remember but there was a time when even watching a simple video was a serious crapshoot because you may not be running the "correct version" of whatever proprietary codec AND browser the site expected, why? Our good old friend Mr DRM, that is why. And the "correct version" could be several versions of both the codec and browser behind (because the site hadn't updated) and of course you couldn't have multiple versions, why you might be a pirate trying to get around our lovely DRM! So if you want a web server or to build a render farm? Then by all means use Linux, as a server OS its great at those tasks, but as a desktop? I'm sorry but its simply not able to compete with a modern desktop in 2015, and I have zero doubt the reason they are using it in India is simply because trialware companies (which actually makes putting Windows on a laptop in the west a money earner instead of a cost) simply don't want to give any money to get users that per capita make so little compared to the west so in this particular use case it was cheaper to use any of the free OSes. In a way similar to how they sell FreeDOS systems in China because they know the piracy is so high the OS will simply be replaced by a pirated Windows....hmm, I wonder how many of these will be running Windows within days of leaving the store? If its less than 80% I'll be really surprised.

What is it with them and the anti-semitism anyway? The amount of pure racist shit was just nuts but they were so openly "fuck the jews, holocaust denial" that they really do come off as a new sect of Stormfront. I could at least understand how racist towards blacks that they are (as it seems one VERY white section of SJW that believe anything a black can do to a white is justified, I even read an article being pushed on places like HuffPo pushing to ban hate crime laws NOT because adding time based on thoughts is wrong but because a group of blacks that dosed a 14 year old in gas and lit him on fire while saying "burn a YT for Treyvon!" might be charged with a hate crime without giving them the "historical racism" excuse) but where in the fuck did this extreme hatred for Jews come from?

The problem is like every cause its been taken over by the whack-a-doodles. Look at how MADD went from "We think you should call a cab when you've been drinking so you don't hurt anybody" (sensible and logical) to "Our ultimate goal is prohibition" (whack-a-doodle) or how PETA went from "We think food animals should be treated humanely" (sensible and logical) to "We'll call fish sea kittens and argue that germs should have the same rights as people!" (whack-a-doodle).

For those that think gamergate is about misogyny, or that social justice hasn't been taken over by the whack-a-doodles? I invite you to play a little game called "stormfront or social justice" where they simply remove the group being targeted and you have to choose whether it was written by a SJW or by a white supremacist. Congrats if you get even 50% correct because THAT is how whack-a-doodle the so called social justice "movement" has become, complete with calls for this or that group to be exterminated, this or that group should have their rights taken away, shit that would have sounded right at home at any Klan rally simply by changing the group.

So I'm sorry but "social justice" as a concept has been taken over, the sensible ones have been run out of the tent by ultra left wing racists that have total control of the platform.

Well I have to have dealt with hundreds in the last couple years at the shop and its pretty damned obvious they still haven't fixed the driver controllers as they are still a complete and total CRAPSHOOT. Get a good one? Congrats you will get to write several times what the drive is rated for, you lucky dog! Get a bad one? Well I hope you didn't want that data because you will just flip the switch and the drive will be gone with zero warning, it won't even show up in BIOS/UEFI and the you will NEVER EVER get that data back!

Say what you will about spinning rust but I haven't had a single drive fail that didn't give SOME kind of warning before dying, be it delayed write failures, be it SMART, at least you got some kind of warning...SSDs? Fuck you, no warning. And has ANYBODY here had one actually fail into "read only" as the manufacturers use to tout? Anybody? Because I have yet to see that happen even once, instead the controller goes and your memories are gone FOR-EV-ER. Again at least with spinning rust you can grab another of the same model and build a clean box and do a platter swap, has anybody here actually been able to recover data from a failed SSD? I bet we won't find a single person.

So do I avoid SSDs? Nope have 'em in both my office box and my gamer box at home....as OS drives ONLY, why? Because I don't give a single fuck if I lose the OS, that's why! But all these people putting SSDs into laptops which they put all their pics and docs on? Well I just hope you have daily backups to the cloud, because the first time you flip that switch and find all your pics, including those of some now deceased relative you can never replace, is gone for good? Yeah I bet you won't be singing the praises of consumer SSDs anymore!

Android emulation would be suicide and here is why....OS/2.

IBM sold OS/2 as "A better Windows than Windows" and what happened? Devs said "Why develop programs for OS/2 when I can just write a Windows program and it'll run on both?" and what IBM ended up with is a limited subset of Windows programs able to run and ZERO support from developers for their OS. So to the consumer you had Windows...or a bad Windows ersatz that could run SOME but not all so why take the chance the program you want may or may not run well when you could just get the real thing?

I've said it before and I'll say it again, if the ONLY thing you have to offer is some nebulous idea of "freedom" based on whatever criteria YOU decide is important? You are gonna fucking lose, just look at how flatline Linux is on the desktop. You HAVE to have exclusives, things that the users can ONLY get from you that the user can actually see and measure, be it a ton of exclusive software like Windows on the desktop, a walled ecosystem that makes everything 1 button simple like OSX/iOS, or units at every price point under the sun like Google. If all you have to sell is "it has a form of freedom...oh yeah and can run SOME Google apps" then why would I as the consumer take your product when I can get the Google units for cheaper AND have 100% playstore compatibility?

I mean you thought the ALIENS in Crystal Skull was bad? Lucas wanted to make the movie in a Haunted House, like a 1940s slapstick! Picture Indy with a bumbling black sidekick doing the "lawdy I sees a spook!" bit and that is about the level we are talking here. I'm sure you can find Spielberg talking about it on YouTube, and just look at his face when he mentions it, its that "DaFuq was he thinking?" look times ten.

Look I really REALLY liked classic Lucas, hell I even enjoyed Howard The Duck for its 80s cheesy goodness but lets face facts folks....too many years with too much money just killed whatever creative spark the man had. Seriously watch the behind the scenes stuff on the prequels, the man just didn't have what it takes to cook up good sci-fi by that point and it showed. You don't have to watch Mr Plinkett to see that damned near every shot in that movie was just plain bad, bad dialog, bad blocking, too much filler in the background, bad script, I'm sorry but the talent that came up with 4-6? The nicest thing I can say about FF is that it opened the floodgates, before Firefox/Phoenix/Mozilla Suite you had crappy IE, broken NS, and adware Opera.

Today there is Comodo Dragon (what I use, better security features and no phone home to Google) Chromium, SWIron, and Opera which my oldest boy swears is the greatest thing ever (hates the new version, went back to using presto) and on the gecko side there is PaleMoon (the other browser I use, I prefer the UI over IceDragon and it seems snappier), SeaMonkey, IceDragon, if you need really low resource there is always Kmeleon which runs really well even on a P3 running Win98SE and if you want to avoid BOTH the Chromium and Gecko engines you can go with QTWeb which is just what it says on the tin, a cross platform browser that uses Webkit and the QT framework...quite nice actually and of course Safari if you are into Apple.

I was using FF before it was called Firefox, and the Suite before that and....yeah, its just not very nice now. The UI feels like a bad Chrome ripoff and it still has "senior moments" where the entire UI can just "hang" for several seconds, which when you have 8 fricking cores and 16GB of RAM? is just inexcusable. I don't know what went wrong with Moz, but for the past few years they seem to have gone out of their way to just ruin the browser, do they no longer care? Has the UI team been taken over by Google? All I know is If I wanted Chrome I'd use Chrome and the current FF feels like a really bad Chrome knockoff, its the "Hipad" that looks kinda sorta like the real thing but once you use it? Yeah its just a knock off.
