Lordy, I remember the days when I had to decode an mp3 before I burned the CD because the burning software didn't do it itself. I had a 333 MHz compy and Winamp, which apparently really kicks the llama's ass.

  2. Re:Dumb idea. on Improving Education? · · Score: 1

the basics of reading, writing and arithmatic are indeed important, but students should have enough self chosen classes so that they have a good idea of what they want to do after high school. The basics make a well rounded person, but a career is about specialization.

maybe the slide rule idea may have been useful back in the day, but my parents used paper and calculators in school. I think its a little late to make kids start using sliderules when half of the teachers in my old high school were young enough not to have used them either.

i don't know, good home schooling depends on about the same number of variables as good public schooling. If a parent doesn't care enough to stay in tune with what is going on and how their kid is doing in public school how would a home school solution help?

Plus a parent who is home schooling can't really work a full time career and bring in money, so its not an option for many. I've seen home schooling generate just as many dumb wierdos as public schooling.

I have to wonder, plus I'm to lazy to RTFA plus I love hypotheticals, so field this: If all the fans blow outwards wouldn't it create a low presure zone inside the case? Also, if the rate of flow is inverted then a high pressure zone would exist inside the case. I suppose the best way to do it is to have all the fans on one side blow in and the ones on the other side blow air out.

  10. Boycott on Canada To Introduce Copyright Law Next Week · · Score: 1

We don't have to think of this in a bad way, they leave the right to make copies for your own use, plus that gives us good reason to repeal the tax on blanks.

Also I question what rights this give the CRIA, can they sue me when I download RIAA music? If they can only sue for their own music then I see an opening here.

But the most useful thing I see here is that if it does indeed pass then I will boycott the purchase (or download) of any Canadian music. I've already completed my Moxy Fruvous collection, what other Canadian music do I need?

In the case of US music I can't get away from it, most music is american but with the (relatively) small amount of music I like produced here in canada I am able and willing to say "I'd really like to buy your music, but your label has been repeatedly trying to fuck over your fans rights so I think I'm gonna pass."

Think of the handful of Canadian based musicians you like, just say screw you to them to make a point. Maybe the backlash will make them think twice about this move against those they are supposed to be entertaining.
