So...that means...everything on Adult Swim is for children? Even Aqua Teen Hunger Force?
Sheesh. Even an adult like myself can still enjoy a cartoon more than MTV.
Video game companies do a really half-hearted job at setting & policing ratings, as evidenced by the number of minors who purchase the mature games (I'm not even talking about minors who have parents who buy the games for them, I'm talking about the minors). The government gave the industry a chance, and the industry has failed miserably.
Yet the government themselves are also setting a bad example, especially with the war going on in Iraq.
On the other hand, the government keeps on repealing these kind of laws, saying that they are unconstitutional.
It's not that the industry has failed miserably in protecting children from bad content, its that the government has helped in making it worse.
Interesting theory. In fact, software sales in Australia may not be so well compared to US and Britain since both X-Box and PS2 can be mod chipped, which is not so good on both Microsoft and Sony's side.
The thing is the fact that I'm hesitant on installing Linux on my computer because I want all my classic game software to run properly on the computer at the right speed. Not too fast and not too slow.(Ex: Sonic CD, DooM, SimCity 2000, Final Fantasy VII, and maybe some DOS games on a Linux-based DOS Emulator)
Just call me old fashion
I have a better idea, why don't you write to the government and tell them your thoughts about this whole bill.
Also, Machine9 made a point about applying the following laws into the bill.
The thing with me and Anime, is that I pretty much perfer what looks like it would be considered kiddie by the mainstream American audience. There's always something in the lighthearted anime that I will take over the darker kind like Ghost in a Shell. Hayao Miyazaki's anime is no exception in terms of the fact that it was more made for kids. However, there is always something deep within Miyazaki's anime that other animes don't have. It's like a candle lit brighter than the other candles.
Then again, there are collections of Hayao Miyazaki films out there.
Basically, it's not just Nintendo that's overdoing it with the franchises. It's pretty much the entire industry.
Most of the time, the people who buy video games, regardless of what they buy, would rather buy a sequel to a game that they like, instead of something original. Back then, there was always something new to enjoy(Ex: Mario Bros, Contra, Zelda, Castlevania, Mega Man, Sonic, Street Fighter, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles(Okay, so that was a franchise, but it was executed good).
But nowadays, most games you find aren't as good quality as games of yesterday. The topic should have been dubbed "Video Games running itself into the ground?" since basically, everyone's been following the same pattern that Nintendo is following in terms of franchises. Not to mention, it should have focused more on the industry in general.
This is the reason why I haven't adopted to buying music online and perfer to buy them on CD still(Well, the DRM-free CDs)
That....would lead to a lot of lawsuits against the government over sexual harrasement. And this is no joke, brah.
I'll probabily end up going the same path as you do...down the classic DVD path(Got plenty of DVDs)

I ended up disabling my Javascript and the pop-ups don't bother me anymore.
Thanks. I have a spare computer, and I think I'll format it to run Linux along with some old programs.

Somebody's been hiring Stooges to guard that button. Bunch of lousy idiots.

Interesting find. I also agree that there should me more in-depth coverage, something game reviewers are missing today when they review games.

If Bill Gates found out about this, he could file a lawsuit against the MPAA/RIAA
