Do you guys ever type anyting for the real world. You know, there are people besides the gods of tech who use computers and their attached keyboards. I almost never touch the Esc key. I use the Caps Lock key quite often. Have you ever typed the title to an article in Publisher, or PowerPoint (or your favorite Linux version of either)? have you ever used all caps for emphasis? These are almost always done using all caps. Switching back and forth between the two Shift keys would be a pain and would inconvenience a lot more people than reaching all the way up to the Esc key. You obviously have a techie way of changing the Caps Lock to whatever you wish it to be, so allow us mere mortals to have our Caps Lock.

  3. Learning Linux on Linux Snobs, The Real Barriers to Entry · · Score: 2, Interesting

Was this Linux project person born with a defective gene or did his mother carefully raise him to be a foul-mouthed jerk? I am in the process of learning Linux, and, yes, I am reading the --- manual. Even with a manual there are still questions to be answered. This is why our educational system has teachers. Otherwise we would simply hand kids a stack of books in kindergarten and tell them not to bother us again. I'm sure Linux person had teachers who helped him learn (at least to read--I assume HE read the --- manual) and probably answered his questions. There are people in this world who are jerks and idiots. It is best to step over them (wouldn't want to get any on your shoes) and continue on your journey. I will continue to ask questions AND read the --- manual on my journey to learn Linux.

  4. Technology for Capturing 360 Degree Video on Technology for Capturing 360 Degree Video · · Score: 1

I don't understand the problem here. This is not new technology. A number of planetariums around the world have been doing full-dome, 360 degree video for a number of years now. I don't know all the technical aspects of recording such video, but it is obviously already being done. The planetarium at which I am the director is currently negotiating with two companies to convert our planetarium to full-dome video. Projection is done by a single projector in the middle of the room. It can project any image which can be stuffed into a computer including full-motion, full-dome video, and still images. Yes, they use B&W cameras. Astronomers are interested in detail first color second. Color cameras don't have the resolution of B&W. Color images are created by taking three idential B&W images through three different color filters. When combined and processed, the three B&W images produce a color image.
