I am in the Army and, while I'm not sending texts in the middle of a battle or something, a lot of my admin messages are time sensitive or I can't wait til the next time I can pull over.
I have sent texts at the wheel. It's annoying because you can only type a couple letters before you have to look up again. Reading a text you've received is equally annoying.
Texting while driving is STUPIDLY UNSAFE and I only do it when I feel the situation has appropriate trade-offs (no cars close or medium-close in front of me, no turns in the road, importance of sending the text, etc.)
When I multitask, I can feel the lack of attention that I'm devoting to certain things. For example, when I talk on the phone or text while driving. I mentally feel it.
Sorry, but everyone doesn't carry quarters. I, for instance, am one of those crazy people who sometimes doesn't carry any cash at all, let alone a dozen quarters rattling around in my pocket! Weird, huh? Well, I assure you, I am not alone, and parking machines that take credit cards are a godsend.
I carry $100 of cash but pay everything with credit card (which I then pay off in full with no interest every month). When traveling to Japan, the most annoying thing is their lack of $1 and $5 equivalent bills. Instead, they use coins, so if you use cash during the day, by the end of it you'll be walking around with this annoying fistful of change clingling around in your pockets. Then you drop it off at your hotel at night. Then you come home with 5000 yen worth of 10 yen coins. Sigh.
Or, we could close up all those expensive shit-stirring military bases, stop the failed wars (oh Korea and Vietnam, I wish we had learned from you..) and cancel social security, medicare and medicaid.
Whoever brings up Korea as a war that shouldn't have been fought has no understanding of history and should keep their mouth shut (in my opinion).
Please, go read ANYTHING related to the Korean War so that you don't get taken for such a dumb idiot.
About two trillin digits down the line, in base 2, scientists discovered a curious pattern... is it purely random, or perhaps a message from the Creators?
Actually, take a walk through the Tokyo train station some time. about 90% of the people there are swiping their phone over the turnstiles to pay for their ticket. Also, you can walk up to a vending machine and touch your phone to it and your item is paid for.
I don't think you're right at all. I'd say 60% pay with paper tickets and 30% pay with special RFID-style cards and the remaining 10% do other things (like swipe a phone or walk through the attendant entrance). It's totally not "common" in Tokyo.
You're really citing Daniel "make shit up as I go along and claim it's the truth" Eran as a source?
The iPhone is considered a big, bulky, slow phone in Japan. Maybe the speed of the 3GS makes it more appealing.
Actually, you're probably Daniel Eran, so it would make sense to cite yourself.
Strange. I just got back from Japan a week ago, and anecdotal evidence be damned, there were a ton of iPhones there. I was amazed it was selling so well.
I just got back from Japan a week ago. I was amazed at the number of iPhones there, considering last rumor I heard the Japanese hated them. I asked someone and they said the internet was not unlimited (in the US, internet on iPhone is unlimited). Can anyone confirm that? I wouldn't have expected them to not have unlimited internet on their phone included in the plan.
Sometimes you fill up your tank too much and gasoline falls on the ground, or else Comcast can install a drain on the ground without your permission to catch this gasoline. Then they try to sell it back to you. That's a better analogy... You got a 404'd domain so you weren't going to get anything anyway. Comcast is making a potential sale by offering to sell you the domain that didn't exist anyway (gasoline that wouldn't have been used anyway because it was on the ground).
Why isn't NASA looking into technology to exploit the temperature difference between lit and shaded areas on the moon to generate electricity? That should be an excellent source of power most of the time.
Because the moon is not a ball of antimatter and there are no creatures that do this. Shit, there goes my GE hull.
Read Khalid bin Sultan's book sometime. He and General Schwarzkopf were the joint commanders of all forces during the Gulf War. Saudi Arabia was terrified that Iraq was going to go after them next. US initially went to the Middle East to prevent Saddam from making the next logical jump into Saudi Arabia, where they stayed for over six months before pushing Saddam back from invaded Kuwait.
Wow. This post makes me remember Starcraft back in the olden days.
Me: "Don't pick the phone up, I'm playing a computer game with Sam!!"
I modded you redundant on accident.
I accidentally modded you redundant.
The U.S. military has been doing space weather forecasts for a looooong time. It's important to a whole gamut of communication operations.

I'm not watching the video, but I rarely text while driving. It's stupid and I have only done it a few times.

execute every person to have ever used the "aluminum" spelling.
Man, sucks to be you... ;)
but wikipedia will simply never be britannica or a serious encyclopedia that you could cite in your doctor's thesis.
You can cite Britannica or a serious encyclopedia in your doctor's thesis?
It must be nice to live in one of the few remaining city-states. ;)

The reasons for pre-emptive wars are all the same and almost always found lacking.
Exactly what part of the Korean War was preemptive?
Reduce the tax rate but eliminate loopholes.

Thanks for the post. I was curious about that myself, without whipping out the calculator.
Hmm, what is a 1km x 1km 2d-surface and weighs 150kg, with enough strength to withstand solar wind and the space environment?
Probably just magical fabric...

PCBs have not been used in transformers in the USA for more than thirty years. Not forgetting of course that this hydro plant was built 31 years ago.

Thanks for the clarification! I was surprised when she said internet was not free/included... but it's very possible I wasn't clear when I asked.
