You notice there's no chess players proclaiming its superiority to Go. What is this, frustration from the fact that Go doesn't help with getting an Asian girlfriend?
Slashdot has a longstanding joke that with every chess article, some wide-eyed enthusiast will blurt out a quick description of Go like he's first to discover it in all the West. Speed is essential! There may be some pasty white guy who does not know the wonder that is Go.
I fully expect someone to breathlessly explain the Great Goodness that is Chess.
Chess is fun. Go is fun. People have generally heard of both. That is all.
Well, transhumanism trumps everything. Once we engineer ourself correctly, we can just jump up and be in space! Are there any transhuman angles to folding? I suspect it's just the usual "let's make the disabled normal" rather than interesting transhuman goals.
Stand a few meters away from a bomber in Iraq and you'll be quite broken. Design yourself to be much sturdier and you won't even notice it.
This won't even be a compromise. You'll be able to jump to Mars from Earth.
You miss the taste of food. Don't worry--everything can be simulated later. Some regulation is done in the digestive tract, which is bypassed in this case. You can actually just drink the very liquid they use--it's called Resource and you can order it online. I usually have something like Ensure, which is similar but meant for injestion.
Hunger--we already have intravenous food (such as Resource).
Breath air--our breathing system is quite inefficient. Heart-lung machines are already available. We'd be "breathing", but we wouldn't be conscious of it.
Thirst--See hunger.
Sleep--This is more interesting. Certain drugs keep you up for days. A designed sentience may or may not need sleep.
Why aren't you mentioning transhumanism? I'm curious about the block people familiar with neuroscience have. Like an elephant in the living room.
Yes you lose a lot of neurons, but at least for the senses you should be fine as long as you have your thalamus. There was a recent case of partial hearing restored by inputting directly into the brain stem.
The end result of all this will be a transhuman capable of withstanding all those bombs being exploded in Iraq. There is no sacrific too high. PETA and stem cell opponents are both roadblocks, although they are political opponents.
"The inventors believe it could help people who have lost limb function through disease or trauma." Why are all these types of enhancements framed in terms of the disabled? We are disabled. Why must we hunger, breath air, thirst, sleep? I wonder if these researchers are just giving the public this. Can they see the obvious leap to transhumanism?
So what is the context of your anonymous quote? I don't need the dead, but I wouldn't mind just intravenous feeding. I already have Ensure quite a bit, which is just drinking it instead of injecting.
I want to go to rock concerts to blow out my ears as soon as I can. There are hearing aids that plug directly into the brain stem. And they have an audio jack so you can pump sound directly into your brain. IP will go the way of slavery eventually.
Whatever thoughts I may have I try to put somewhere on the internet. Alt.alt or alt.geek on usenet is what I've been doing. A personal archive may get destroyed but google may save the alt.geek group for a long time.
Given your sig. I have libertarian leanings, but I think of it as something for the transhuman future. When my mind is encased in electric armor, I won't mind guns too much. But for now, I'd like them off the streets.
I don't think so.

You're adding processing latency to storage latency. But you won't find maximum theoretical latency quoted in their grid rentals.
There will never be a substitute for a single box with a lot of CPUs on it. For tightly coupled dataset the latency of a grid will be a limitation.

Don't sadle yourself more!

Remember they are using the tool like they would use their own arm. Monkeys already can grasp--having opposable thumbs.

But starting over is a bitch and you don't get to choose your starting city.
Or just buy the Ensure with fiber built-in.
So what is the context of your anonymous quote? I don't need the dead, but I wouldn't mind just intravenous feeding. I already have Ensure quite a bit, which is just drinking it instead of injecting.
If you're really dedicated, try stuff like Ensure. It's not bad tasting, and you can have it exclusively for as long as you want. Oh, but add fiber.
Wait for your transhuman future.

Humans are animals. That is all.
Yes, the rat-rights people will lean to the "other party" as I said. Libertarians offer a way out, at least on this issue.
I want to see them go after the organic-everything new-age crowd. Maybe if they object to wireless internet.
