"For the purposes of this subsection, all the parts of a compilation or derivative work constitute one work."
Am I reading this right?
I take that to mean that, unless I upload an entire album (work) to one person, then it is not infringement. However, with something like bittorrent, I may only upload a part of a file (not to mention an entire album) to a person and never send the entire file to one person. That person will get parts of the file from everyone who is downloading and uploading.
So, does this mean that, by using bittorrent, it is next to impossible for someone to infringe?
OR, does this mean the opposite? That distributing even one part of a work is infringement?
I wonder what would happen if someone mailed a check to one of these pharmaceutical companies and in the memo, stipulated that, if the check were cashed, that the results of any research brought (bought?) about with the donated money would have to be released under the GPL or some such... sort of a, viral, open source donation...
I have used reflector on in house software written in.net and I can tell you, it was nearly 100% accurate in re-creating the source code, including variable names and comments of the original developer.
I still have the MSDN Beta 2 disc for windows 2000 that supports mips and PPC. Had it running on one of my Alpha boxen here, but all of the "put content of this dialog box" messages basically made it unusable.
No, it's the people who do absolutely NO research, have never even thought of taking a contract to a 3rd party to go over, and are so naive that they will believe what is told them after EVERYTHING IN THEIR LIFE has been people saying one thing and then doing another, that are causing "The Problem" That's life. Figure it out or get out of the game.
I have no sympathy for people who expect hand holding (other than children under 14) for everything they do. If you are not able to read the contract, take it to someone who can.
You're right. Nobody deserves to be tricked out of their life savings, but hey... that happens all the time because there will always be idiots who can be tricked.
Here in Japan for the last 5 years or so, it has been people calling up some poor old grandmother (not theirs) and telling them (in a hurried/rushed/scratchy voice trying to impersonate the grandkid) something like "I just got into a bad car accident and ran over some kid and the only way I can avoid jail is if I pay the family Y1,000,000 (about $100,000). Can you please send the money to my bank account grandma? Here's the bank account number: xxxx-xxx-xxxx". And you know what? A whole bunch of old people were getting tricked into sending their life savings to some stranger because they THOUGHT it was someone they knew when something as simple as a call back would have confirmed that it was not their kid. When people tried to get their money back, guess what the bank and the police told them: "It was a lawful transfer. You wired them the cash. You shouldn't have done that. Sorry."
Such is life. Yes, you only have one of them, so be careful.
"These market troubles aren't due to mortgages that the banks didn't want to grant. They are due to cannibalistic hucksters who *lied* people into loans."
I'm sorry, but people who don't read a contract that signs away the next 30 years of their cash deserve to get screwed. Jesus people, it's only gonna take you 10 minutes to read the damn loan contract.
There is no last mile problem. In Korea, and most of the rest of the world, we use kilometers;)
Also, the reason that the "last mile" is such a big issue in the US is that there are so damn many more of them. "Last Mile" in Korea or Japan might mean 1 or 2 km from the closest switch box, whereas in the US, it might be tens of miles...
I dare a CPA person to come try to take one of my kids away from me because of what "they" percieve to be a lack of parenting skills.
Someone comes to try to take one of my kids away because I spank them in public or tell them to shut up, will be present at a beating of which they will be on the receiving end.
heh, i have to agree here. My phone has 20+ brew apps on it that I have paid probablly close to a total of $40 on and if I get a new phone, even one from the same maker (sanyo on this case) then I have to forfit those apps in order to get a new phone. My current one broke, the screen is dead, but i have to re-pay for the apps... that really sucks...
"Are these stations then taxed the same way even though they are playing music that is not part of the umbrella?"
Yes. It is exactly like that. The RIAA will collect royalties for indie music as well. They keep those royalties until such time as the indie artist joins the RIAA. Granted, those pre-collected royalties would probablly not even cover the sign-up fee to join the RIAA.
Um. It will most likley use the same camera addon or the mic from the Talkman series. Since video calls are mentioned as well, I would go with the camera addon since it already has a mic built into it. Bluetooth would be a cool addition...
Here is the problem with thinking that the radio stations will just play more non-RIAA music.
If they do this anything like they are trying to do with internet radio stations, then the RIAA will still require that radio stations pay royalties to them for everything, even non-RIAA content. Then, those fees colledted on that music will be held "in escrow" for the independant artist until such time that the independant artist joins the RIAA. If the independant artist never joins, then the RIAA gets royalties on music it does not hold the copyright to...
Although it looks good, why drastically change the characters. I mean, I can't even figure out what Megatron is supposed to be.
And Bumblebee? Named that way because he was a VW Beetle. I dunno.. It will probablly be a good movie but they could have at least used stylized versions of the original characters. Even a newer model VW woulda been ok...
Imagine a beowulf cluster of.... wait a sec...

Mod parent up and lock comments on this story. Enough said...
Bad form to reply to my own post, but I just remembered something that may be relevant... Isn't cashing a check "agreeing to a contract" of sorts?

There, fixed that for you.
You sir, are wrong.

"Let's assume a $180,000 loan for 30 years at a fixed 7%. That's $1,197.54 a month for 30 years."
Wholly christ! You guys in the states are paying 7% interest on a house loan?!?
I'm glad I got a 30 year fixed mortgage here in Japan at 1.68%...

Easy, unplug the power to the transmitter. Whole army is useless after that.

I was just about to post the same thing... haha
First storage system I had was a tape drive. Move from that to 5 1/4" floppies.
Which reminds me... I have a memory (ram) collection but I am missing one type of memory. Anyone know where I can get a sipp module?
See my sig.
We can't possibly live in an infinite universe.
If the universe is infinite, than that implies that time had no beginning.
If we did, then the night sky would be white (bright?) in all directions from the infinite amount of stars surrounding us.
