  1. I don't care if it's RPG or not... on IGN on the State of the CRPG · · Score: 1

The most important thing is that it's FUN. Does it matter if Final Fantasy VII is just an interactive novel with stats and not really RPG? Does it matter if Diablo is just a hack-and-slash fest with stats and not really an RPG? I don't really care, neither does most gamers. I just know that I've had way more FUN with Final Fantasy VII and Diablo than some supposedly "open-ended, non-linear" RPGs like Daggerfall or Morrowind, which is just BOOOORING. I don't care.

That is a faulty mindset. Kids are the parents' responsibility. Unfortunately, when the parents fails to bring up the kids in a responsible way, the kids will grow up to be the society's and everyone else's problem. More unfortunately, too many parents are irresponsible themselves, thus creating kids that grow up to become problems to the society.

There is an old saying: "It takes a whole village to raise a child." The rationale behind that old proverb is this: the result of the child's upbringing affects not just the parents but everyone else in the village.

Nowadays, more and more parents are too irresponsible, yet they just can't refrain from breeding and creating problems for other people. Society has a stake in how well parents fulfilling their responsibility. Therefore, society should have a say in how well parents should raise their kids.

  5. Only a mega-corp like Microsoft can do this... on Rare Spike in Microsoft Console Profits · · Score: 1

Microsoft has deep enough pocket to lose money until 2007 so it can build long-term brands and profitibility. Xbox is a great machine. Even then, Microsoft has to project losing money for a long time before it would be able to capture enough market shares from an firmly established Sony and for Xbox to become profitable by itself. Imagine you are a new start-up that has created a brand new, cutting-edge gaming machine. You hawk around your design until . Your investors usually want to see profits in two or three years, MAX. If you are the most fortunate son of a b!tch in the entire human history, your investors will grudgingly support your money-losing venture for five years, absolutely no more than that. And for that generousity, you will have to promise back your wife and children, plus an arm and a leg. So there is absolutely no way you, as a small start-up, can lose money for seven or eight straight years just to build up a brand. That means you just can't compete with giant corporations like Microsoft or Sony in an established market like the console gaming industry, EVEN IF you have a great idea. You have to build a brand new market that does not exist before if you want to build a new empire . And that is why Linux and open source will never beat Microsoft, especially when no company is willing to lose money for a LONGtime to support them.

  8. Re:While EA does carry alot of influence.... on EA's Plans for Xbox 2 · · Score: 1

EA does not want to deliberately "piss off" Microsoft just to flex its muscles. However, EA will act in its best monetary interest, not Microsoft's.

If EA's best interest clashes with Micosoft's, EA has enough power to not cave in to Microsoft. In some other markets that are related to Windows, Microsoft has enough might to force most other companies to bow to its will. However, Microsoft does not have that kind of influence in the console gaming world, especially when Xbox is a far behind Sony as the number-two in the console market.

Sony Playstation has an endless list of classics. Xbox has Halo and Halo 2, and that's it. At this point in time, Microsoft needs EA more than EA needs Microsoft, to help establish Xbox as a player in the console market. EA can decide to go against Microsoft to work with just Sony. If EA cooperates with a couple other major game publishers, they can bury Microsoft's Xbox.
