  1. apple ireader on Apple Applies for a Touchscreen Gesture Patent · · Score: 1

I'd be pretty happy to see this wind up being a prelude to a product to compete with Sony's ereader. I'd really like an ereader, but have no interest in anything sony sells.

  3. My reason for using Ubuntu on Ubuntu: Desktop Linux's Success Story · · Score: 3, Funny

I've only been using linux for about two years and I recently switched over to Ubuntu (I used Fedora and Suse previously). At first the warm tones of the human theme and the gnome desktop threw me off, but now I quite like them, and even if I hadn't it's not hard to get around them. There are two reasons I prefer ubuntu:

1.It is well thought out. Not only did I find ubuntu easy to setup the way I wanted it, but it had a lot of nice added touches like sound effects. The ubuntu website makes it pretty easy to get any information you need.

    2. What really appealed to me about linux in the first place was the idea of people freely helping and empowering one another, without being reliant, or not as directly reliant on corporate interests. Ubuntu seems to capture that spirit very nicely. I like the idea of a distro striving to be equally accessible to people of different regions and with differing physical abilities.

That said, if they shot the three happy hugging people in the togetherness logos I wouldn't get upset.

You are pretty far off with this comment and I'm quite suprised at how high your post has been modded. Whedon couldn't be much less of a production by committee person if he tried. He's a control freak. That's why he writes and directs his projects. After having his movie scripts for Buffy and Alien butchered (though I actually liked the buffy movie) he's voiced his intent for the next person who screws up one of his scripts to be him. He isn't the sort of writer or director who basis decisions on focus groups. Moreover, the movie is a finished (or pretty much finished) product. How could this be film making by focus group if hte fil is already done?

  7. Re:This isn't news on Serenity Screenings Sell Out · · Score: 1

What makes it news is the vote of confidence in the film by the studio. There have been previous test screenings of the movie that were very popular with pre-existing fans of the show. I suspect that those reviews gave the producers enough confidence to try seeding buzz about the film by allowing sneak peaks a couple months before the release date. If the movie sucked, or if they thought it would offend the fan base this wouldn't be done.
