You have to understand that in all scientific fields, especially one as new and quickly evolving as Cosmology, there are a LOT of theories. Just because one was picked up by the mainstream media, it doesn't mean it is a widely accepted theory.
All that happened here, is they recalculated the Hubble Constant(something that happens fairly frequently) And the theorized age of the universe was changed as a result of that (the age of the universe is the inverse of the hubble constant)
This doesn't adress the theory that light has varying speeds, because its not widely accepted. It was merely a theory put forth to try and explain some of the mysteries of the big bang theory.
Scientists did not prove anything. Some merely published a theory. It is not in anyway proven. Science is not like engingeering where it either works or doesn't. The scientific process takes a while, and dark matter and dark energy are still a vital theory in explaining expansion of the universe.
So please don't tell me Dark Energy doesn't matter, because if that's true, I'm wasting a lot of my time.
As part of my job, I leave electronic monitoring equipment for days or weeks in pubic places.
Well of course, you have to be careful when leaving valuable equipment in a sensitive area.

I know! With the way airlines are these days, they'll never have to set foot in a paper plane again!
