This is definitely the important part of this ruling. It's very obvious that Kazaa, Napster, Morpheus, Grokster, Limewire et al Truly exist on a userbase of copyright infringement. Not only does it exist and they take no official notice of it, but you can easily argue that the ONLY reason for owning a copy of any of those clients is for the explicit use of copyright infringement. You can say "P2P is noble" but you can't say that Kazaa is.
Bittorrent is exactly the opposite, that is, many people do abuse the tool but it's primary use is legitimate. Anyone have usage statistics for legit/illegit uses? I move upwards of 50gb in legal material every month, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.
It's worth mentioning that Rewritable media doesn't have the shelf-life problem that write-once media has, due to their using metallic material instead of dye.
Well, I didn't design the thing, I just test the software that controls it.. But my understanding is that it's simpler. The thing about pumping blood is that it's similar to pumping little water balloons. If you ruin the blood, there's no point in pumping it. So, you take a very carefully designed mag-lev pump and run it at a constant velocity. Having a pulsing mag-lev pump would be a complication all by itself.
As has been mentioned, this _is_ a bit of a step backward. However, the Abiomed device is an actual artificial heart.. This is much more complicated than the accepted alternative, the left ventricle assist (LVAS). The idea is, they stick this motor in the side and bottom of your heart, and turn it on. No chambers required, no pulse necessary. Constant Flow.
Makes me wonder how well the brain would operate without a pulse though.. Would it effect your moods? I'm not sure, but as this is a press release, I don't _think_ it violates my NDA.

Well, I'm afraid that it _is_ limited to the quality of the video. If it's some bootleg fansub of highly dubious quality.. Ya, good luck. You could always re-encode it to something more standard.
I backup all of my DVD's to 1 disc XVID using AutoGK, they come out beautifully. I suspect that your problem comes from either:
1) not using square pixel aspect ratio
2) subs too far towards the bottom of the screen.
Television sets cut off all the way around, that's the nature of the tech.
Check out http://www.doom9.org/ and http://www.videohelp.com/ for help on re-encoding.
One might wonder... What kind of TV set are you using? Have you tried a television color calibration tool?
Obviously he has a video card with a TV-out.. How else is he getting them on VHS?
Pfft.:)
The Philips DVP642 plays mpeg, mpeg2 (DVD), mpeg4 (Xvid).. $60 on amazon. I can highly recommend it.
Well said! I have a handspring deluxe visor, Palm i705, III, and VII. All of those work beautifully. The really crappy devices that I have floating around are all windows CE. Also, I have never had a problem with paypal.:)
One bit of outdated, too big to fit in your coat-pocket is the Vadem Clio, you can find these on ebay for varying prices... They shipped with Wince 2.11, Microsoft Word, and a scrunched little keyboard.. They flip open like a tablet PC and have a 10hour battery life. Very cool, totally useless. Other than that, I'd suggest a Palm. That grafitti stuff is pretty damn slick, and there are thumb-keyboards for them also. I'd suggest the i705 for a $30 really decent palm.
My company is just completing work on an LVAS (left ventricle assist), which isn't strictly an artificial heart.. a Heart pump is designed to be surgically implanted into a failing heart, an artificial heart could (theoretically) replace it. Now, at least _our_ heart pump uses a shitload of electricity. It will go through a big lithium-ion cell in less than a day, due to the mag-lev impeller spinning at around 3000 rpm. Seems like we're missing a big piece, if we're going to try to power the thing on 0.2 watt cells.
*shudder* and if you moved your arm when the "bat" hit your shoulder, the high velocity jet injection would slice your arm like a razor blade. I still have a scar from my first one. Needless to say, I didn't flinch on the next one down the gauntlet.
Seriously, this is the single reason that I use it over MS Office (except when I can't help it, like with Rational Soda and RequisitePro).. I used to work next to this guy, he would say "Wow, I never expected it to do that!" in joyful glee whenever MS Office did something truly bizarre with his formatting. Sometimes he would cry when undo didn't work.

I'm still waiting for Gmail Messenger. Everyone I know switched to MSN Messenger when they got their hotmail accounts (from ICQ) because it's convenient to add an email address instead of a 7 digit number. Unfortunately, those aren't the email addresses anyone uses anymore..
Next Google product, please?
As a former Marine, I can't resist.:) I joined out of highschool for similar reasons. I notice that they're still pushing that giant falsehood: Pay for college.:) Unless things have dramatically changed, the GI bill for reservists amounts to about an extra $100-200 per month in addition to the (aprox) $200 you receive for your drill weekend. I know I couldn't have done college on $300-400 a month. The Real GI bill that "pays for college" (at least used to be, I understand things may change during wartime).. You would pay in a certain amount of every check for 4 years of active duty, and then it would "mature" into $30,000 of college tuition. Aside from the fact that this is wartime, so you won't be spending any time in the "reserves" anyways. But these parts aside, and on to the reason I wrote this reply!
While you are in bootcamp, don't take anything personally. All the goofy stuff is for a reason, the way they make you carry a glass of juice in the messhall (Live grenade, coming through!), etc, etc, etc.. It all pops up later in training and makes sense. (Turns out that when you throw a grenade it's one hand over the top, just like with the glass). Even IT (Incentive Training) isn't a punishment so much as a method to get a bunch of squishy recruits turned into marines in as short a period as possible. Enjoy bootcamp, you'll get 8 hours sleep every night (except the crucible, which is no big deal).. As Marines will tell you, that's the most sleep they received during their entire enlistment.:) Good luck, try not to stick out (But nobody tries to stick out..:) and don't take any part of it personally.
