IBM is already doing this on their iSeries (AS/400). In order to manage it you have to have a Hardware Management Console (an x86 xSeries machine running Linux and their management software). I really think that they have done a good job of the virtualization, it also lets IBM throttle back the CPU. We have a 1000CPW (IBM's performance index) machine that with the Power5 1.5Ghz processor is limited to 43% utilization. In order to get all 100% of the CPU (2400CPW), we would have to pay through the nose.
I bought the Ubuntu based Dell laptop online with the boss's business credit card. I configured it how I wanted it and it was all good. I wanted to send a message that people do want computers with linux preinstalled. It was a whole lot easier to just turn it on and have everything setup and working than having to try to get all the hardware working.

We got hit with a virus on our Exchange server a little over a year ago. We migrated to Zimbra. We have about 65 users. The conversion went pretty smooth. Administration is very simple. They made an excellent admin gui. It is very easy to do every day tasks with it. The 1 feature that I miss is tasks/todos. This is supposed to come in version 5 due out in October, along with having IM, documents (wiki), and some other features. Full system recovery is a little rocky, but is being adressed. My favorite feature is the search capabilities. I can do all kinds of searching for emails/contacts that I could not do in Outlook/Exchange 2000.
It would be interested to see what projects share same/similar chunks of code. This could be used to move similar code into libraries where things are redundant.
Have you or anyone else heard anything about the SBC hosted VoIP offering called HIPCS? They apparently have a few installs in teh Chicago area, but not finished isntalls here in Central Illinois. When they presented it it sounded very much like the Speakeasy solution with them hosting it and we going with the same Edgemarc firewall and Cisco router, switches and phones. I am definately interested in peoples reaction to there service both good and bad.
What about a hardware public license? Though the device itself may not be virtual, the design is. (The device itself may approach being virtual if the means to make it becomes significantly easier.) This would obviously help open source developers with say CPUs, video cards, motherboards and the like, but could also be a plus for other industries as well. What are your thoughts?

While bandwidth is a concern, why not put torrent list for all these live cds and live dvds? A legitimate use for BitTorrent.
