  1. Strange? on UK Law Enforcement Starts Seizing Music Blogs · · Score: 1

Am I the only one that thinks it strange that SOCA would endorse another site; even a site provided by international music groups. I also think the second link makes a really good point, SOCA seizing a .com is a little strange. I don't think they'd threaten either, after all it will all be logs from the past not at the point of takedown that would interest them.

All in all a little strange.

Upgrading to FF3 will cause the extension to become disabled as its not compatible.

You can also go into the AVG directory and rename the Firefox folder. Unfortunately that has an addon effect that you cannot update AVG (due to it thinking its install is corrupt).

I really think that calling AVG slimy is off. They have provided a good AV solution for millions of people, they are attempting to protect the dumbest user, which this ploy will do.

For those thinking about another AntiVir is pretty solid.

Would you really put that past MS? All joking aside, if you do not install WGA you will no longer recieve updates, which MS probably wouldn't care about as they will most likely start the push for Vista. I think that the whole discussion can be summed up, just as the article says, with:
"We reject kings, presidents and voting. We believe in rough consensus and running code." -- Dave Clark

So in answer to "What is UNIX?", UNIX is code that runs based on general agreement of the masses. This is why it will not die, even LSB is discussed in the article and rightly so, it falls into the same category. A loosely held standard that defines what the general masses of Linux distributions use.

No hard and fast standard would ever survive in the *nix world, ever system is unique to its purpose.

Well, I think this is true to a point. The average user is happy to learn what it takes to do what they need it to do, above and beyond is something they care nothing about.

The only phone calls I used to get from my dad seem to go along the lines of "so its not working now" at which point I knew it was either virus/spyware thats got him stuck. However he has started to take responsiblity for his computer and slowly but surely he is understanding that he has to watch what he installs, has to keep his virus utility up-to-date (does this without any prodding now!), etc.

Yes it is true that 90% of users want to walk in and it "just works" but once it doesn't, they do seem to wish to gain some independence from me..... oh wait maybe its me :P
