I pay taxes on my income, then pay taxes again as sales taxes. It's not some novel concept that's unique to dividends that money gets taxed as it moves.
If you can get a prototype that actually does what you want to patent, then I'd assume that counts for the "show the damned thing working" requirement. If you don't have a prototype, then all you have is an idea. Why should we give someone a monopoly to someone based on an idea that may or may not actually solve anything?
This really is the single largest problem that the USPS has. They basically have to pre-fund 75 years of retirement benefits and they were only given 10 years to do it. There is no other business or government agency that has to do anything even remotely similar to that and without that their financial situation would be impeccable.

2) Does the VP who said that have a doctorate and extensive experience in both of those fields (with a doctorate in one of those two)?
I just ask because it seems like a lot of business majors seem to think that someone who's an expert in one technical field somehow gains mastery of other unrelated technical fields through some sort of magic, and that these people are all willing to work for bare bones salaries.
Since when aren't unions part of the real world? If a group of people want to organize together to increase negotiation leverage, then that is 100% free market in action and going on strike is a perfectly valid tactic. Sure, you might be saying "well, it's not fair that some workplace would require me to join a union", but is that any less fair than there being only a few players in the mobile phone industry, or 4-5 companies owning 90+% of the media in this country? Don't be pissed off that some people collectivize their labor in response to others collectivizing their capital.
Money is paid out to investors out of new investor's money, and the cycle continues. Last time I checked, this is also known as a Ponzi Scheme and it is inevitable that it eventually collapses.
Uh, money comes into the government via taxes. The government's debts are essentially backed by the entire US economy. There's only two ways for the debt to not get paid: 1) The economy completely collapses overnight. 2) A political crisis that ignores reality.
If 1 happens, most of the world's economy is pretty fucked and US debts will be a secondary issue. The only reason we're where we're at now was because of 2, and that's only because some insane politicians decided to force a showdown over long term spending during what is normally a routine procedure (albeit one that allows for plenty of posturing).
So to model society we'd need to implement nodes that die off or are created, with connections dynamically changing as well (making new friends, or maybe leaving that crazy friend with an unshakable belief in something stupid). Maybe new nodes will have some chance of moving up or down some number of levels of belief from their parents level. I'm sure there's many more variables that could affect it.
Yeah, the series totally fell apart after it's 12 billionth season, but it just keeps limping along after it brought about the shark and them jumped over it. Looks like it's just going to keep on going and going till it's a lifeless husk of a show dying a slow death, sorta like The Simpsons.
If you've got no right to drive, then I could easily see them taking away the licenses of felons, sex offenders, those on probation, those with traffic tickets, parking tickets, etc (selectively of course, wouldn't want a politician or businessman to be restricted of course).
On the one hand, I can easily see that the blind and those with epilepsy with unpredictable seizures shouldn't be driving, but unless someone's specifically been convicted of a serious vehicular crime (drunk driving, vehicular manslaughter, etc) it's really hard to justify rationally why they shouldn't get a license. If they've got a facial recognition program identifying someone as a terrorist, shouldn't they be picking that person up for some intense questioning?
Humans need all this shielding and food and water and a shitter, cause a giant very expensive investigation if they get blown up, and are generally only really even slightly practical at LEO with current tech.
Yet we landed on the moon 40 years ago. Not just once, but six times. Have we really regressed as a species so far that we can no longer do this? When did "we choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard" turn into "it's hard and risky, let's just stay home" and "it's too expensive"? (despite NASA's budget being half what it was in the mid-60s and being what the DoD spends in a week and a half)
