  1. Ah what do you mean a 586 is old? on Linux Q3Test 1.07 · · Score: 1

My 120Mhz i80586 runs Q3 very well compared to win32 boxes @ 200Mhz. I (re)nice q3 to -17 and use a 3dfx Monster3d to the graphics hardware. When I play on the net I kill the web and ftp servers for even more speed.

They need to change system "requirements". You don't need a 3dfx card to play in linux. You can be on a fast machine and do software emulation.

    Damn win32 centric specs!

No distrobution can be solely responsible for the stablitly of linux. Do you people know that you're asking that Distrobution X should fix the new kernel and gnu libs just because they're a distrobution. You can't have one company fix millions of lines of new code in one release.

I can't believe you people... all of you bitching about potato and redhat 6.0, you apprently can't handle the new libs/kernel.

  4. What is this about? ( lusers ) on Red Hat Growing Pains · · Score: 1

RedHat 6.0 runs on kernel 2.2.5 and glibc2.1, so you should have known it would mean a clean install. I tired to everyone using a distrobution for an excuse... if you can't maintain a UNIX system stick with NT. Sure NT isn't that stable ( Look at eBay cgi servers crash all the time. ), but any idiot can blame NT and be justified at least.

Gnome, Star Office and everything works on my Redhat 6.0 and debian ( glibc2.1 potato/alita ) boxen... it's because I know what I'd doing. It's not the distro it's you. =)

It's like running slackware and complaining about lack of glibc support... and another thing I hater are newbies that ask to ask questions, then when you give them a paper... they can't read the damn thing... man I'm angry today. =)

  5. ( off topic ) China doesn't have "free speech" on Bootlegging Buffy · · Score: 1

Hey, you know america and .au are supposedly democractic. They supposedly have no censorship... well they do censor and snuff out anything that opposes their views like any other nation.

Pols in China and pols in the US and AU are cut from the same cloth. President Cliton would call the the national guard out to take away your network, if a CNN poll told him too. China's officals are keeping themselves in power, and the best way to do that is keep democracy out.

I know it's horrible to have less "rights", but it's still basicly the same problems wherever you are... Janet Reno as Mao? The flames shall come. =)

  6. What about the right tool for the job? on Ask Slashdot: Perceptions of Red Hat Software · · Score: 2

Redhat is a good distro to get into the work place, and start your friends on... it installs on all the major architectures and various methods. I like the fact that a cable modem user can get a boot/supp disk set and format and ftp install linux onto an empty hard disk.

Redhat pays for a lot of software development and forced the other distrobutions to try harder. If linux was still slackware ( I started on slack w/ 1.2.13 ) how many of you that dismiss Redhat would know what the hell linux is... ?

Everyone that belly aches about Graphical User Interface configuration tools. You can still use the console. I give newbies console instructions to setup/trouble shoot their modems, and let them use netcfg with vi for ppp. I think you should use the right tool for the job, reguardless.

I've installed only Debian, Slackware, and RedHat... and I choose RedHat for my personal use. You should refer new users to a distrobution or even OS that fits *their needs. BeOS, linux, BSD, AIX, SunOS, Solaris, NT, etc... everyone has a tool that fits their hand. Please remember this before you tell a newbie to "...just go get distro X, it's what I use. ".

I managed to type this without a single acronym! ^_^* back to the grind
