  1. Re:More importantly. on Sony takes on iPod Shuffle · · Score: 2, Informative

That is a total bs. Previous CEO was a marketing guy. Sony's hardware started to diminish when fathers of the company retired from active duty. And Sony WAS interested in DRM all these years anyway.

Hopefully new CEO would actually bring some change in to the company. It is a shame to see a real "engineer's" company to become one of these American Style corporation's which is only after the money.

Founders of the company were real engineers that is why Sony made first transistor radio, walkman and trinitron. Hopefully company will get back to engineering with a content twist.

I would not pack my bags, yet. I would just stop downloading as well as paying for the shitty movies and tv shows that are polluting the airwaves. It is not like you must have these things. There some advantages in living in US still. Why are so many people want to get here?
While I dont agree with IP laws, these are the only laws we have at the moment. If you commite the crime, you should expect to pay for it. Stop being "CONSUMER" of the crap these companies produce and there, your problem solved.

You can use privoxy or any other filtering proxy to fix this for any browser. Unfortunately SSL still goes trough. For privoxy place this pattern in the {+block} section of user.action file: .xn--*.*/
This will block all of the xn-- domains until it fixed in firefox.

This company is based in Florida where most of the scam and spammers are based. It has no address and no phone number on the website. The only payment they accept is "paypal". It smells really bad if you ask me.
Product extends laptop battery "talking time" according to the website. They also developing DSL version of a sticker. Sticking it on your DSL modem increases your download speed 30%!!!

  6. This was tried already ... on Consumer Electronics Companies Plan Common DRM Standard · · Score: 1

and look how it turned out:
    - there is at least 4 different flash memory standards because every greedy bastard wants to make maximum profits.
    - Apple used it's own DRM and so did Sony with magic gate. None of them wanted to pay fees to microsoft. Who can blame them for this?
    - Anyone remembers HAVI? That was huge in consumers electronic companies in the late 90s. Same actors - Panasonic, Philips, Sony, etc. That went belly up because no one would agree on the features and it manufacturer wanted their proprietary features to be included in the standard.
    - Then there was something similar from Sun and M$. That went bust.
There are probably many more examples of why this will fail. Until multiple companies in China and Taiwan will make cheap devices without DRM consumers will not purchase this crap from the major makers.

If it will possible for Media conglomerates to buy the laws protecting their buisness model, US has much bigger problem than media piracy - it has problem with it's capitalism and democracy because this goes aganst both.
Until recently I had some faith in US democracy but now I am not so sure any more.

  8. I agree - Rational products suck. on Rational Atlantic Eclipse Based Solutions · · Score: 4, Interesting
During my software development carier which is not particularly long, ~15 years, I have used 4 Rational's products. In fact I am using one today. I can attest to the fact that all of their products are pretty bad. At least all products that I used. This was a fact 6 years ago and this is a fact today. Whenever company is using Rational's software, engineers always will have conversations at lunch about how bad that software is and who is the idiot that started using it in the first place.

Personally I would stay away from their software if at all possible. It has bad UI, it is memory hog, and documentation is piss poor. When IBM gobbled up Rational it did not improove the situation.
I was listening to Scott Meyers once. You know, the guy who wrote Effective XXX series. He addmitted that he could not code. And that is OK, he told us. "It is not my job, my job is to teach you to code". He is probably right, considering that his books are pretty good in my opinion. Rational has the same thing going only their software sucks.
I would think that the company, who employed people like Grady Booch could make half way decent software.
