Case in point: The a-hole at costco who punched out an old man for complaining that he was grabbing all the samples for himself!

Econ 101: Best way to deal with undersupply is to increase the price until the supply and demand curves meet. I've never figured out why these charging stations are not only prime parking spots right out front, but are giving away electricity. Charge $20/hour to park there, and then see how much people fight over it!
There are also cards you can put in your front window giving people permission to disconnect the charging cable if they need it themselves...
My thoughts exactly. They find a lot more hairline fractures now that they started using MRIs instead of XRays, because the fractures didn't show up on XRays. Kids can probably have thyroid cancers for years before it becomes apparent, UNLESS you're carefully scanning every kid looking for it. By the way, my sister had thyroid problems, which we attribute to... giving too any xrays to animals in her job as a veterinarian. So the other question is, does excessive testing itself create more cases of cancer?
Hmm... could the fact that Linux maintainers keep quitting because they get tired of dealing with assholes have something to do with the problem that it's hard to find people to maintain Linux?
Do what every other trade has done: start a union or trade guild, pass laws requiring certification testing, restrict entry into the trade in order to create an artificial scarcity so that you can command premium rents for the use of your labor. Every other trade has done this including teachers, doctors, lawyers, carpenters, truck drivers, etc., why not engineering? We're too ethical for our own good, apparently.
LIke anything else, becoming good at programming requires a LOT of practice. Like spending 20 hours a week in the lab as a minimum (yes, I taught a community college Java class once). My take would be most high school students don't have the spare time to learn coding well. My daughter doesn't have enough time to do all her classwork and attend cheer practice as it is -- imagine a kid that is in student government, sports teams, has a significant other, helps their parents... how are they going to find time to code?
Don't punish people for failure to graduate, just make it a requirement for full citizenship rights. Should be be allowed to vote if you fail to meet the requirements for a GED? I'd want mandatory military training too (like Switzerland), but that's kind of a radical idea.
Robotics is perfect because it combines different branches of engineering: mechanical, electrical, and software, maybe even optical. Focusing on just coding is short-sighted.
There are good and bad software developers from India, just like from anywhere else. Some of the most brilliant software people I know are of Indian descent, as well as some of the worst managers I've had. My biggest problem with farming work out to foreigners is that it is a lot easier for them to lie about their qualifications and claim skills that they don't actually have.
Somebody tell Rahm that quite soon most software will be written by software. Although having a basic understanding of logic and how computers work is useful for predicting their behavior and analyzing their failures, but teaching everybody how to write code isn't that useful. And besides, it drives down the profits I can make as a software engineer!
I just had by Galaxy S5 fall out of my shirt pocket when I over to pick something up. $130 to repair the cracked screen. Kicking myself because i knew better than to put it in my shirt pocket to begin with. What is the best way to guarantee a phone doesn't get dropped? My daughter carries her iPhone 5s in her hand all the time and drops in almost daily. So far, she has succeeded in destroying a $90 Otter Box case, but not the phone itself.
Engineers design things to meet the constraints they are given, This doesn't indicate malice on the part of the engineers, this indicates that the testing methods are faulty. Put the cars on a dynamo and simulate real world driving conditions!
Seems like a good idea at first... until you realize that people can just put together a whole team of people to help them do the online course, and guarantee that they ace it. This scheme is going to reward cheaters, not geniuses.
That was proper use of DMCA, somebody was profiting off of someone else's intellectual property. Now imagine someone uploaded one page of the book while downloading the book (this is analogous to what BitTorrent does). You can't issue a take down notice to EVERY seeder, and the laws intended to stop people from selling intellectual property they don't shouldn't really apply to people accidentally distributing a very small part of intellectual property they don't own, should they? The punishment should fit the crime, and the penalties should be much less..
I believe the lawsuits are for UPLOADING, not downloading content. Most likely naive users not realizing that all while they are downloading using BitTorrent, they are also uploading (seeding). Correct me if I'm wrong, but you can't be punished for downloading copyrighted material, only for distributing it. Of course, one must wonder if sending someone one block out of a 100MB file is distribution or fair use.
The problem is that there are many other websites now that you can only post to if you have a Facebook account, which requires you to create a burner Facebook account. The obvious solution is to stop making a Facebook account mandatory for use of other sites.
According to the following gallup poll, 3.8% of adults self-identify as LGBT. You are correct that the percentage is usually overestimated, but you lose credibility when you don't get your facts straight.

For office space, slow charging may be acceptable. For retail space, you need as much current as possible for quick-charging.

One of those things I never understood.. how can arsenic be both a carcinogen, and a commonly used cancer cure?
Give the editor a break... he has a vowel obstruction!

Let's teach the kids a skill they can really use: selfie training!

Pretty soon, you won't be able to work at McDonald's without a degree from Burger U...
Well, sure, because computers are free, right?
"Writing code is a fun hobby that can turn into a rewarding career. So are a lot of other things." Like sex, for example.
