Actually, I want to be able to tell my Amazon Echo to turn off the lights, because I'm too lazy to get out of the bed and walk over to the light switch. So there is some application for an IoT, but I'm not sure the $500 it takes to achieve a voice-activated light switch is really worth it for all consumers.
What you see as a problem others may see as an opportunity, i.e. to create a hub that can translate requests between the half dozen different IoT "standards".
One of the groups at Oracle Headquarters has their own Keg Fridge. In the Office. At the headquarters. While I suspect it was only used on Fridays, there is ample precedent for companies allowing drinking at work.
I worked in Oregon at Intel and other jobs for 15 years and bought 2 houses; don't know what your problem was. Sold both houses when I was out of work for 2 months.
No, the talent they found was more willing to lie on their resumes, and harder to catch lying because they lived in other countries. But yeah, willing to work for half as much helps too.
You would have been out the door by your own locomotion as soon as you found another position. If you're a crap employee fresh out of college, that might take a bit longer than you hope it will. Admittedly, as software engineers we have a warped view of the world because we are constantly being offered new positions, even when we have a job we're happy with.
As a contractor, I've learned one thing: If you don't like your current position, you have only one option: Find another position. The reason people are willing to work 80 hour weeks for minimum wage is they think they're going to be start-up millionaires within a few years. Been there, done that several times, and I'm still not a millionaire! But I've definitely heard the bullshit stories about how all the stock options are going to be worth millions to each employee in a couple years.
My card says "See Picture ID" on the signature line, so I really can't complain when they ask to see my ID... let's just say I've had people steal my debit card out of my mailbox and go Christmas shopping with it, and it didn't make me happy. (Mail box was a quarter mile from my house, so hard to monitor. I did replace it with a locking mailbox after that.)
I think the consensus is that if some other company leaks your personal data, THEY should pay for credit monitoring services, not you. In fact, since T-Mobile leaked my personal info, they are paying for credit monitoring for me as we speak.
The banks have a worse problem than that. Do you realize that _anybody_ that knows your checking account number (i.e. anybody you've ever written a check to) can do an electronic funds transfer out of your account, no questions asked? I've had this done to me, and when I complained, my bank's response was, "You need to close your account."
The movie was a HUGE disappointment after being a fan of the comic, which was basically a spoof of superhero comics masterminded by Stan Lee. But I agree, Howard the Duck doesn't deserve it's current reputation as worst movie ever, or even worst comic book movie ever. There are lots of contenders for that title, even the deliberately campy Flash Gordon.
Why, back in my day, when you wanted to stalk a girl, you had to go to her house and hide in the bushes! None of this just daily navigating to her Facebook page like all you nancy-boys these days do!

Your appliances... they're talking about you behind your back!
You forgot the timeless adage: "The day Microsoft makes something that doesn't suck is probably the day they start making vacuum cleaners!"
I can't get into the panic room... the internet controlled lock on the door won't open!
So, if your internet connection goes out, your pipes freeze up, then?
"I for one welcome our new computer overlords!"
... is there are so many to choose from!
Does this mean SmartThings is becoming the de-facto standard?

Researchers are still searching for a cure!
Rectal-cranial inversion: it can be cured in your lifetime!
Please, give generously to help support the search for a cure to rectal-cranial inversion!
$1245 isn't an insane rent, that's about what I pay for my 3-bedroom house with a fenced yard for my dog...
Actually, for company reviews it's glassdoor.com.

Yeah, Phoenix, where you need to pay $500/month for air conditioning alone... I'm sure people can live on minimum wage jobs there!

Half hour ride in an BART, what's the problem? She didn't need a car, there's no parking downtown anyway.

How could someone fresh out of college have no marketable skills?
She was an English Literature major. Could be worse; my sister was a Sociology major!
I _think_ the zip code has to match the zip code of the billing address for the card, so random zip codes shouldn't work...
