Whoa... but then, wouldn't these "dark matter" stars be emitting the same infrared radiation? I like the random dust cloud hypothesis better. Orbiting alien megastructures would exhibit periodic dimming, not random dimming.
No, the epidemic was started by the eating of bats in Guinea, according to the Frontline Ebola Documentary ( http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontl... )
But then, what do they know?
I've seen it too, when the cute 20 year old Mormon software developer in the cubicle next to me had to put up with an older, married, marketing droid chatting her up for hours at a time when they had no business reason for interaction at all. Not sure who is doing the harrasing, but I doubt it is us soldiers in the field that are actually doing all the work. More likely the extroverts with big egos than us humble introverts... in other words, more likely the bosses.
Not familiar with the concept of phone number portability? Everybody knows the first 3 digits of your phone number indicates where you were living in 1999!
In fact, I constantly get email meant for other people, because apparently there are dozens of people out there too ignorant and/or lazy to type in their own email address correctly, and they have addresses similar to mine. Yes, I'd love to get phone calls for people that have similar names too! (Have actually gotten phone calls from debt collectors for someone with the same last name, but different first name... apparently they were just calling everyone with the same first initial and last name and demanding money -- how is that even legal?)
Anybody that has ever tried to look up a friend on Facebook or Skype knows how stupid this is. Apparently there are dozens of people in the world with the same exact name as the person I'm trying to contact... who knew? I was even surprised, when googling myself, to discover that there is a band out there that goes by my exact name, first name AND last name! (I'm thinking of suing them for trademark infringement, but they have yet to reply to my emails.)
Not sure whether or not you're being sarcastic. Al Jazeera obviously had a pro-Arab bias. But it also appeared to be really trying to do journalism. The only sources I've seen lately that adhere to traditional journalism values are Al Jazeera, BBC, and Christian Science Monitor (which is also much less biased that one would expect). Hopefully, Al Jazeera's web-based news service will continue. Why does anybody expect media companies owned by huge multinational corporations to do real, unbiased journalism? (Fox, ABC, MSNBC, CNN... yes, I'm talking about you!)
"Happiness Hero"? She's the one in charge of happy endings... apparently it's a quite highly paid position; not sure whether or not knee pads are provided.
There is another huge benefit from computerizing prescriptions: there are already available expert system that can point out possibly harmful drug interactions, as long as it knows all the prescriptions the patient is already taking. Of course, this check is done again at the pharmacy, but it would make the whole system more efficient if it was caught at the time the doctor wrote the prescription (Ever try to get in touch with a doctor to fix their mistake?)
Can you name any buyer of software (meaning the guy signing the checks) that isn't just doing checklists? Certainly every marketing department I've worked with seemed to think checklists were the meaning for their existence.
Doctors do what they have always done: push everything they don't want to do off on the nurses, who push everything they don't want to do off on CNAs, etc. Every time I visit my physician now, first I wait for the nurse to come in, take vitals, and enter all information in the computer, then I wait for the Doctor to come in and talk for 5 minutes. The only thing the Doctor using the computer for is printing prescriptions. Isn't this just human nature, anybody that can get someone else to do the tedious tasks for them... does! Case in point: my dad is the best cook in the family, and I'm the worst, but my dad used to make me cook for him, just so he wouldn't have to do it himself!
Sure, but in India, kids are a lot expendable that the special precious snowflakes we have here in the states! (Sarcasm intended) I walked to school all through gradeschool because the small town I grew up in had to transportation services. Other than frostbite once on the way home, there were no problems.
Most school districts don't provide transportation for students living within a mile of the school; some up to 2 miles. So how were all those students getting to school without putting their parents in legal jeopardy? This has been my argument in favor of free range parenting all along - why is it legal for the government to mandate that your child walk to school, but not legal for you to let your child walk to the park?
A few years back, GCC took out all the processor-specific optimizations and put in only general purpose optimizations. That made it less efficient, so I can believe putting back in all the processor-specific stuff would make it run 15% to 20% faster. I also suspect the Intel Linux Distro is extremely limited as to what hardware it runs on, but that's the tradeoff you make for maximum optimization.
If they are interested in gun violence, what they need are lots of microphones. Then they can easily triangulate the location of any gunfire noise based on the time it takes to reach each microphone. Of course, it probably can't distinguish a firework from a gun, but both are monitored by BATFE, so it would be withing their purview.

"The only winning move is not to play."
You mean complete air gap security isolation from the internet IS NOT the policy for every nuclear site? How stupid are people?

You mean the comment to your coworker that "The view of Uranus is lovely tonight!" is no longer considered appropriate? Kill joys!
Which orifice do I stick her SIM card into?
You mean like... an IPV6 address?

I'm missing some back story here... care to provide a link?
What we REALLY need are some Zombie Bin Laden videos... now that would increase ratings! Probably compete well with even The Walking Dead!
But... I'm already in my Mom's basement!

Yeah, Norwegians are atypical. They jump out of saunas into frozen lakes... nothing fazes them!
