Um, I read it, and it clearly shows Amazon is trying to use a loop hole in the local laws of TX. Amazon is using a shell company as the owners of the facility, so they can claim they don't have a physical presence in the state. Because of this they believe they don't have to pay sales tax, but its obvious they are running the facility and have employees in TX. So a Judge will decide if owning the facility constitutes having a presence, or having employees working at a facility. Thats what needs to be figured out.

This is the hypocrisy he is talking about, and doesn't relate well to what is happening in this case, like apples and oranges. But the idea is that someone's hard work is being ripped off by someone else and profits, even just a little bit of profits, are being lost by the original artist. Doesn't matter if no profits are made by the other party, the maker of said product (movie, music or game) is loosing out, that is what makes them similar.

  8. Supernode Software on Lessons Learned From Skype’s Outage · · Score: 4, Interesting

How about they release some supernode only software that people can setup on a server and possibly the ability to setup Skype to use a preferred supernode. So a businesses can setup a supernode of their own and point their users too it. But also that supernode is part of the collective of supernodes and routes Skype connections for everyone else too. This would hopefully give Skype more supernodes out there that are 24/7 and not desktop computers routing the traffic.

    - Apple says that its “data center environment consists of MacOS X, IBM/AIX, Linux and SUN/Solaris systems.”
    - The Maiden facility will have a “heavy emphasis” on high availability technologies, including IBM’s HACMP and HAGEO solutions for high-availability clusters, Veritas Cluster Server, and Oracle’s DataGuard and Real Application Clusters.
    - Job candidates are also asked to be familiar with storage systems using IBM, NetApp and Data Domain, and data warehousing systems from Teradata.
    - Networking positions require a familiarity with Brocade and Qlogic switches.

See section 21. Donations can only be collected with free apps, and only in certain ways. Most likely since Apple cannot confirm that $1 is being donated like the app submitter is saying, it got pulled. If the person resubmits it with in app donations it will probably pass again. Otherwise we will have an explosion of "pay me $1.99 and I'll donate $1" apps all over the place and no money getting donated. Where as in app donations can be confirmed.

I hate Comcast. When I was in NJ that I switched to DirecTV and added Verizon DSL (slower) to do a dual connection from my house in case Comcast went out (only $19, can't beat that for a second connection). When I moved to Maryland I had to go back to Comcast for everything until Verizon FiOS became available in October. So far no service calls have been needed for my FiOS compared to Comcast which had its issues down here too.

As for Verizon FiOS welcoming, it was a little over the top to the point of annoying. We got about 4 or 5 calls to confirm the installation and another bunch to confirm that it was installed and that we were happy. So many calls that during the first week I was guaranteed to have at least one message from Verizon thanking us for signing up and to call if there were any issues.

I'm much happier with Verizon FiOS than I was with Comcast.
