Almost as annoying as pop-under ads that (to circumvent pop-up blockers) attach an onclick event to EVERY ELEMENT ON THE FRIGGING PAGE to open the ad window. Popup blockers ignore it, because it's "user initiated".
Doesn't matter. Some employers (like mine) go insane if you bring your own personal computer in to work at all. If it isn't theirs, it isn't there is their motto.
Actually, OEM installations ARE pre-activated. In fact, one of the most comment methods of Vista activation-bypassing is a kernel mode patch that pretends that you have an HP BIOS, so that when Windows first starts it sees that you have an HP factory built PC and skips activation.
No, it isn't. Embarcadero is about 15 years old, and started when it made one DB management product for Sybase. Over the years they made MORE database products (cross platform DB admin, DB modelling, and DB change control) until eventually they saw Borland selling CodeGear and snapped it up.
Their head office is actually in San Francisco, with a lot of satellite offices.
No relation to Borland whatsoever, other than buying half of it.
... who promptly quadrupled prices. It's now cheaper to get Visual Studio with MSDN Premium than CodeGear All Access (which is basically just Delphi, C Builder, and JBuilder along with some DB stuff you'll probably rarely use). Embarcadero sucks.
Imbecile. It's common (nay, EXPECTED) in the software industry to use one's own products. It's referred to as "eating your own dog food". Fuck off with the "cool-aid" shit.
Also, the servers would be running on a server class OS. Windows 2008 Server, unless Windows 2010 Server has gone RC recently (it hasn't) - Microsoft actually does tend to use RCs of their own products on their servers, as most software companies do. I assume Apple does the same thing, and it wouldn't surprise me if Canonical updated to RC versions of Ubuntu Server.
And by contrast, it works fine for companies like us (a medium sized enterprise, with 14000 people) and it works fine for companies like Microsoft (a multi-national conglomerate with hundreds of thousands of users).
I usually refrain from saying this, but have you ever considered that maybe you just set it up wrong. Microsoft products, like any other, can fall apart like a house of cards just like Sendmail when misconfigured.
Listening to the news this morning (we are 16 hours ahead of the US), our authorities seem to have concentrated all their efforts in micromanaging the school threat, and ignored contamination of everyone else on the plane. Provided the officials stay inside the school, they should be safe.
Yes, well, stop listening to the news. I assure you it's taken a bit more seriously than that.
This one's relatively unique in that the mortality of 20-40 year olds is higher than usual (most influenza strains, the mortality rate is low from 20-40 and high among children and elderly)
When you get the dialog box, you have to opt-out, if for no other reason, to get RID OF THE BOX.
What box? It will use the info bar, like the save password prompt.

How about "Wanna not look at my ads? Just a buck a week will do. Here's my payment details..."

So what? Properly secured proxies, etc, make Windows a perfectly secure operating system. This isn't 2001, you know.
You know, I bet you're one of the people that objects to mandatory registration and notification of transfer of Microsoft software too.
Funny how one company can get away with something stupid, but another company does it, and it gets (rightly so) called a travesty.

(Note: may not actually be HP)
Apogee's stated they aren't affected, man.
Actually, there is verification - a forum post (on the 3drealms forums) by Joe Siegler, saying that "It's not a marketing thing. It's real."
They're really gone.
Apogee is saying ther are not affected by what happened to 3DRealms, and are refusing to say any more.
EMC (VMware's parent company) wont let VMware die, and they have the near limitless resources to make sure it doesn't.

They ended up doing a pretty good SCM
I don't think we're discussing the same product.
Yeah, the only thing they have left is the name, and their ALM tools (StarTeam and the like) - which almost noone uses anyway.

they won't even bother calling Akamai
They do use Akamai.
Actually, Intel leaves out VT support on a whole plethora of modern processors. My 2.33GHz Core 2 Quad (1066MHz FSB) doesn't include it, for example.
That's what they're goddamn fucking doing, FUCKER.
You still don't get to keep the old license if you upgrade - only if you buy new licenses. I can't tell if you knew that from your wording.
The BSD TCP/IP stack was thrown out three years ago.

Windows on Windows was designed and built in NT 3.51 (or possible NT 4). What the fuck you talking about Willis?

The regular vaccine does not cover this particular strain, so not really.
