In fairness, you can't see that on the video. It seems clear he was on the ground and that 6 cops were on him trying to handcuff him, but there is no evidence that they were able to do that without having to resort to the taser. This guy could very well have been a threat to Mr. Kerry or anyone else in the audience. This guy could have had a weapon. Why should the police have done anything other than whatever they had to do in order to ensure a potential threat was neutralized?

Look, I'm all for free speech. I'm just pointing out that he was not tasered for being "annoying" or for asking unpopular questions or even for going over his alloted time. He was tasered for acting in an erratic and potentially threatening manner in a closed environment with a member of government present and subsequently resisting attempts to remove/subdue him otherwise. You can actually see him lunge toward the stage at at the beginning of the video, would we be having this argument if it was determined that he had a gun/knife and was intending on hurting someone? Given the information at the time, the police had to assume that this was a possibility and thus had to make a major effort to ensure everyone's safety. If this guy was really on the level, he should have calmly walked with the officers (regardless of whether he thought it was fair) and not broken loose and rushed the stage.

I never suggested that any of these guys is completely without any talent. However, your assessment that UFC is the standard by which all martial arts should be judged is laughable, and eventually you will see that. Don't believe me? Are you still reading this and scoffing at me? Fine. Do yourself a favor, do a little research and find the nearest serious dojo in your area. By "serious" I mean a dojo that is affiliated with a mainline of a particular style (not just some place in a strip mall that says martial arts/karate/tae kwon do/etc). Pick a dojo, go in, and find their top guy. Attack this guy, and when you come out of your coma in 15 years (maybe) I'll be waiting for your apology. You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. I have had the honor of training with an actual master (which by the way means the HEAD of a particular style), and have felt the true power of a refined, classical martial art and I assure you, UFC doesn't stand a chance.

Anyone who's trained seriously in martial arts will tell you that true masters would have absolutely no interest in UFC not because they're incapable of winning or afraid to compete, but because it's obvious showmanship and goes against most martial arts principles particularly "leaving fighting as a last resort". Anyone who achieves master level certainly does not do so by "proving" himself in publicized "battles", but by years and years of disciplined study and practice.

Besides, a true master of any art would never let himself get into a position where a much larger and more experienced grappler (to use your example) would have a superior position, it just wouldn't happen. It might not make great tv, but there's no way one of the "big boys" is going to get a hold of a true master, despite how much he can bench press. People forget that strength and speed are only 2 of many factors in what makes a martial artist great.

I get so irate seeing ALL of our state's electoral votes go for the Republicans regardless of how close it is in terms of the popular vote. So, I guess what you're suggesting wouldn't be a bad fix, as my main issue with the current system is that the "winner" only needs 51% to get 100% of a state's votes, and that just seems skewed to me.

As an American, I could not agree with you more. It's very unfortunate that a large portion of the voting public (those that can even be bothered to stand in line to vote in the first place) feel that their only option is to vote for one party or another. I believe that a large part of this problem is the ridiculous, antiquated Electoral College. It is precisely this sliding scale which makes it possible for political candidates to play the odds and take advantage of various "hot button" issues.

There is nothing more incensing to me than to watch the various political ads preceding any election as it becomes quite apparent how truly stupid the candidate(s) believe the voting public to be (heck I guess it's working, so they must be partly right). Being able to swing votes your way by trying to convince the public that your opponent is in huge favor and would prefer to kill babies (for example) is the type of "mudslinging" and polarizing ideas that get presented in these advertisements. It's unfortunate that a lot of the voters don't realize that they're being manipulated by allowing their personal religious beliefs to cloud their thinking and are putting WAY too much trust into people who would stoop to that level.

I would love to see the expulsion of the Electoral College, and I'd love to see some serious reform for campaign advertisement and debates. I'd prefer a much more level playing field. I'd like to see a situation where these things are controlled so that a grass-roots candidate is able to have the same visibility as a veteran of "the game". The elections shouldn't come down to essentially who has the most money to spend on advertising and who can hire the best "muckrakers" to dig up crap about their opponent(s), it should come down to who comes the closest to what everyone wants. I concede that if this ever happens, we'll have to listen to some real whacko's, but I'd much rather sit through a ridiculous speech of impossible campaign promises from some "nobody" than I would from 2 or 3 "somebodys" realizing that I HAVE to choose one of the 2-3.

That said, I think that if anything, the internet has made the music industry irrelevant. That is, now instead of having to go to extraordinary lengths to get my music heard by people (i.e. playing lots of shows "on the road", mailing press kit after press kit, trying to get on the "solicited" list of record labels, getting magazine/zine write-ups, etc) I can create my own website, or put my music on any of the artist oriented sites to get the word out. I've actually been able to get in touch with (and work with) several filmmakers through my website which I would not have practically been able to do without the involvement of some professional representation if it weren't for the internet.

Personally, I find the internet very liberating as a medium for conducting music business in that it allows me to choose whether or not to involve anyone else (like a manager, agent, accountant, producer, etc). If I choose to allow one of my pieces to be used in an independent film, I can negotiate the terms directly with the filmmaker(s) rather than have the terms dictated to me. I also am free of the obligations that come with even the most liberal contracts that are rampant in the music industry.

While I definitely agree with you that there is no substitute for playing and collaborating with others, I think you'd probably agree that technology/computers have made the process of CAPTURING those magic moments that occur much easier and thus have contribute hugely to music creation as a whole.

Now, when you're just "jamming" with some people, you can have a laptop there recording everything so that when someone does something "accidentally brilliant" 10 minutes into a jam session, you have it captured in a very clear, editable form. I don't know about you, but for me, this has been invaluable. There's nothing worse than doing something that just works for a song/piece and then never being able to do it again. One of the deciding factors in my buying my workstation keyboard (a Roland Fantom X6 incidentally) was what they call "skip back sampling". That is, it's constantly recording what you're playing, so if you do something great, you hit a button and boom, you've got a perfect digital copy of what you did.
