Exactly what we do - during peak holiday seasons we need extra capacity on our cellular network at various beachfront locations. We truck in containers with preconfigured base stations, and even have a few mobile switching centres on wheels which we use for both capacity and DRP purposes. Given the sometimes poor power situation in Africa we also have lots of mobile generators and portable masts scattered around the country waiting to be dispatched to tower locations in times of need. The container idea has saved our bacon on many occasions.
Something I also never knew about was that if any developer makes a change that causes Solaris to run any slower, that change is immediately rejected until the code can be reworked. I love my linux, but it is definately taking much longer to boot these days - totally in contrast to my experience with Solaris from 2.6 till now.
I couldnt help but smile when I read "No child left behind..."
Do yourself a favor to cheer yourself up...listen to George Carlin's Life is worth losing - track 6 about 07:30 minutes in.
Uses...none I guess.
Crap image - sure is.
However, these are the kind of things appreciated by geeks with no friends - You only find them by reading Slashdot where we are all social outcasts - who gives a shit about politics?
Problem is now we will have a bunch of users out there who dont have the new update features introduced in 1.5. That is a big problem should flaws come up later on.
I found this quite interesting - here in South Africa you get competing products in most stores, you just not allowed to put a competitors product in a fridge that is the property of and branded the vendor concerned.
I only buy good supplies - pitty the suppliers use shitty fans that seize up - I now have a piece of string on the wall behind for advance warning of pending catastrophe;)
Agreed, however it is foolish to think that a certain DB backend will serve your purposes indefinately. I refuse to use anything or allow my developers to code anything these days that does not at least allow me the possibility of migrating my backend seamlessly - read ADODB etc.
I am NOT installing MySQL just to run it, no matter how good it is, same goes for MediaWiki - what is it with developers these days that they dont see the bigger picture and add abstraction layers from day one?

RTFA and all will be revealed...
We are pretty creative in this 'third world country'
