    Last I checked that's not the equation that made him famous.

    e = mc^2 says a lot more about the universe than e = ((pc)^2 + (mc^2)^2)^.5

    Before someone rants about how setting p=0 gives you the form blah blah blah... stop. I've been there before. That's still not the equation that made him famous. It is the simplified version which speaks to the direct relationship between energy and mass. It's elegant and simple enough for the wide of public culture to consume.

    with all respect, your idealism exposes your youth.

    i'm down w/ OSS but there is a time and a place for everything... and the truth is, most often (note: i didn't say always), there is not a place for OSS in the business world.

    businesses want something that (1) works and (2) has a phone number they can call and bitch people out when that POS software doesn't work like that SOB liar salesmen said it would.

    A mixed blessing. Low stress. Great benefits. Pay is lower than private industry.

    Remember this ironical bit of wisdom: the faster you try to push things through the bureaucracy, the harder it pushes back to slow things down.

    Finally, if you live in a warmer state, you'll love summer time on campus. Lot's of great scenery. I am referring to the foliage of course.

    +5M points to you for pointing out the obvious thread furcation. They happen. Note the "for those reading this looking for something more than NI's option" (left out of your quote) in my reply. Someone about to embark on a research experiment with labView might appreciate knowing there are other robust options to get the job done.

    first off, thanks for the reply. i do appreciate it. i've worked quite a bit w/ labview in lab. its good software... and the hardware interfaces available are great.. (not to mention the FPGAs--of which i've only read about.. but it looks great on paper) but its not the best actor-oriented type programming environment i've come across though ... for those reading this looking for something more than NI's options.. check out the Kepler project (http://kepler.ecoinformatics.org/) and Ptolemy II (http://ptolemy.eecs.berkeley.edu/ptolemyII/)
