In this case you're using Tylenol as an Anti-Inflamitory.... not as a pain killer. Tylenol or Advil will reduce the inflamation which will ease the tissue pressure on the nerves in question.
I did have a Programer once take a Kensington Trackball and set it on the floor. He used an enter key for his clicks. It's an Idea. I'm sure you could use a programable device for mouse button clicks and just use the basic roller.
Even being a great IT person isn't always enough. With some companies you have to leave to affect change.
I know this sounds odd, but sometimes a key individual leaving causes upper management to partake in the daily 'grind' and thus free up resources ($$$) to actually address the root problems. This is just an idea. W
e all carry around a toolkit of solutions. Sometimes this last tool is the only one that fits.
Hey, there are Anti-Microbial Plastics designed just for this type of thing. www.microban.com
Check out the various products that use this tech.

An another note, I got tired of all the guys in my IT Team catching every bug going around this summer. The best Advice I had was, in addtion to having the team wash their hands as often as possible, provide them with Purell Instant Hand Sanitizer. Went out and got about 20 sample bottles and handed them out. Result: illnesses have dropped off. Really a cheap solution and doesn't dry your hands.
I think using both the Hand Sanitizer and the Anti Microbial plastics is the best bet all around.
Cheers,
