  1. Non-PC Studies on Study Links Genetic Diseases to Intelligence · · Score: 3, Insightful

Their are probably thousands of studies that could be done linking ethnic or social groups with intelligence, physical aptitude, obesity, disease, or just plain bad luck.

But they will not see the light of day due to the politically correct, media-charged world we live in today. Such a study would be be spun into outrage by minority or activist groups, calling the researchers racist or worse, regardless if they are correct.

  2. Former Citigroup Employee on 3.9 Million Citigroup Customers' Data Lost · · Score: 1

This article strikes me as odd. I used to work for a Citigroup subsidiary, and they had tons of stupid rules for how to handle sensitive data that we followed to the letter. One of them was that all information labeled as sensitive or higher (acct #s, addresses, ss#, etc) had to be shipped via Brinks armored trucks. This included paper and electronic media records. We also had to keep all client sensitive information under lock and key each night, and had frequent checks for it. To top it all off, we had to watch stupid videos by the CEO about the company we wanted to be, and how we should be preemptive in doing the right thing when it came to transactions and handling company data. We had to sign attestations to the fact. It was a horrible place to work, with restrictions on everything. Ironic that with all their rules, they still managed to screw up somewhere.

You know that MS is hard at work readying Internet Explorer 7 to pass this test... heh.

  4. Can't they take a hint? on Bush Signs Law Targeting P2P Pirates · · Score: 2, Interesting

I wish broadcasters and movie studios would learn from P2P instead of trying to eliminate it. I do not fit inside the typical demographic model they have for programs. I have a 55+ hr a week job and a 1 year old. I usually cannot watch my favorite shows when they are scheduled, and it is a real pain to get a babysitter so I can go to a theatre just to get mad at little teeny-bopper punks running in and out of the theatre and talking all the time. What I want is non-commercial TV on demand and first release movies that I can watch at home without waiting 4-8 months for the DVD. I will pay $100 - $150 a month for this type of service. They need to wake up to a missed financial opportunity.

  5. Special SPECIAL Edition - in 3-D on George Lucas Struggles to Reinvent Himself · · Score: 2, Interesting

One really interesting part of the article in Wired was the mention of another release of the 6 movies - this time in 3-D. Someone want to guess what he will add/subtract from the movies this time?

  6. Wookie Army on Star Wars Episode 3 Play-By-Play In Pictures · · Score: 1

The only things missing from this sheet are the toothy dude from the lava planet and the wookie army. He could have at least capped those from the trailer and inserted them somewhere.

  7. Sense of Humor on Geeks in Management? · · Score: 1

I was promoted to an operations manager from lowly developer about two years ago. I don't have any real problems with people since I tend to go with the flow. Anyone violates the rules I simply follow the management handbook and do the "warning > write up > your ass is gone" chain. That and a good sense of humor about the workplace has made me pretty sucessful geek manager. My first task for new people is to borrow my copy of 'Office Space' and watch it. After that they tend to understand where I am coming from. Nobody has stolen my red stapler yet. The only problem I have run into is that my skills are getting rusty. By spending the day doing management tasks, I am missing out on actual project work and coding. I don't have as much time to brush up on my coding and some of my underlings are surpassing me in skills.
