It seems that countries who's emotional eqivlency is null usually wins these types of contests. All of the programming tests I take with employers point in this direction. This seem that anyone who can express emotions aren't good programmers. One must seperate themselves to an objective state in which there is no feelings...only logic. It's the NCIS programs on CBS...no emotion, just logic. Kind'a like my relationship with my girlfriend...only she doesn't understand it.
Wal-Mart along with Disney have hired PC consultants.
Wal-Mart is going urban...with grants.
Disney is going extremely parent friendly...in the Bush/NSA sort'a way.
I'm calling my cable company to see if I can pay $25,000/month to get the data rate. Needless to say this will increase the downloads of my extremely intelligent blog.
There are many of us in the launch community who had high hopes this would work. We monitored the progress simply because this was rocket science at it's best, basic, experimental but mostly guts.
Many of us are saddened of the failure but hope and wish Elon God speed in reclaiming a place in rocket pioneering.
We know many of the people at SpaceX, their dedication and continue to support them in their quest. Don't stop now...it's only a matter of time.

Much of the stuff hitting the market today is old hat.
Why...
It was commissioned by the DoD many years back. What you're seeting today is the result of DoD (and others) requirements for a network centric environment.
Many of the innovations you're seeing today is the R&D of the DoD years back. It's not new but it's been proven.
Many companies who do DoD work ask that once the technology is well past innovative and no longer useful, they are able to market it to the public.
What is available now is the remains of things no longer useable to the DoD.
We, the public, are well behind the technology curve. Determining which company came up with the technology and will market it...is the choice...er...chance.

Just another way to sucker in those college grads who paid many thousands of dollars for their education...only to repay it back at minimum payments.
The person in the cubicle next to me has a student loan of $43K and is haveing a very hard time of it. They're close to living in their car only because their parents live on the east coast and they don't want to move back.
Most of the graduates are chipping in to buy cable at one person's apartment, just so they can say they have high speed internet. This is aimed at the jocks..who didn't have any brain away.
This is getting so crazy. I pity the fool.
Within five years we'll have a college graduate who worked on this project but in the end barely passed. Not being able to find a decent job they'll resort to plying their knowledge in the neitherworld. I'm stickin' with Atari.

Having worked on the 'Mission to Mars' program several years back, everything is doable but, the Wi-Fi sucked due to minimal towers.
I put up a website. Invite all the indie bands to place their music on it. I charged $.49/per track for downloading. They get $.39 of that.
In return I splash their album cover, add some liner comments and give a rave review.
I'm hoping for 500K downloads/month (worldwide).
