With Steam if your brother, husband or wife, child want o play the games you bought that you have with you user on your PC/Mac, they need to access steam with your user id, or uy the game again

Note: The Java plugin code was never open sourced to OpenJDK, people from IcedTea project developed a new plugin and JNLP engine for Linux. I am starting to think that Sun already knew the bad security quality of the plugin and they decided to never release that code
I don't see think Java the platform is a security nightmare, but if someone doesn't need then don't install it, reduce your chances of being attacked with software you don use.
Every Chrome/Firefox release has security vulnerabilities fixes, sometimes bugs as critical as this one, and I don't see people screaming "Remove Chrome, Disable Firefox...". All software has bugs, the problem with Java is the slow response of Oracle (and Sun at that time) fixing things, the update cycles are too long and only when a critical bug very loud on the media is found you see them pushing a fix.
I don't see why AD integration is needed for a small business, even some medium ones, that only is true if you run Windows clients. I have clients running pure Linux environments (one that you can call medium sized, a Hospital), for what will I need AD integration?
As the person who wrote that comment, I see no contradiction here. Samba 4.0 is needed because it updates everything adding Active Directory protocols. If for some reason all Windows system die tomorrow, Samba 4.0 is less important because the main use of it is Windows interoperability, actual samba is pretty useful for basic file sharing, and if you remove one of the uses of it to something, it become less important. Samba AD integration is not used for Linux system, it is just for Windows clients.
A project to follow for equivalent functionality of AD for pure Linux system is FreeIPA (still a lot of development ahead but the architecture is good)
and the latest Java 7 update added features to disable Java applets and JNLP from browsers, that way if you need Java for an application like Eclipse, but don't need Java on the browser, you can secure yourself

The big problem here is that Google is commingling all their services and there is only one level of payment, for example, they announced a few days ago the distribution of Android applications for your business using the Google Play infrastructure, for that, you need a Google Apps domain, so If you have all other services covered, for example you have your email infrastructure already in place (where you can have intranet only email accounts and public accounts something impossible with Google Apps) then you still have to pay 50$/year per user to distribute Android applications using their service and you don't use email, chat, docs. This is wrong!
I think they will have a lot of problems if they try to kill the current Free edition users service. So many things are tied to the Google Account, your Android purchases, your published videos on Youtube, (they add a warning on YouTube about the tie with your domain). Unless they provide an account migration from a Google Apps domain to the free service, they will be hit by a lot of adversity
Note: They did a migration from standard accounts to Google Apps a few years back, but it was very problematic and not all services allowed migration, so you got two accounts with half the data tied to it. I learned that day to leave my Android publisher account as an standard one a never tie it to the Google Apps domain
400$/year is for 8 accounts, expensive for that small amount of users. I am all for paying for a good service, but a small tier is needed, as I said on another comment, 100$/year flat amount for the first 10 accounts is more reasonable

For Firefox you can go to about:config and enable "plugins.click_to_play", there is no preference UI for it yet

Great, I have old information of the first Chrome sync implementation. I will try it on my Chrome instances (my secondary browser)
Firefox doesn't have only bookmark sync, it can sync settings, bookmarks, add-ons, passwords, history and tabs
The real advantage of Firefox sync is that is encrypted on the client side, so Mozilla is unable to read your data, not the same with Chrome
