Media Player has come a long way from the horrid version 7 uggh. Even though version 10 does have a better interface (and is my choice for playing videos) I think that Windows should be bundled with a Media Player. Just Windows comes with an Internet browser and an e-mail client, heck even Apple's OS X comes with Quicktime preloaded and is bundled with many applications.
I personally think its stupid to take Media Player out of Windows. Sure people might not know the alternatives but a media player it a piece of software no computer should be without. With all the media content on the net and embedded in websites etc they know the majority of people running Windows are able to view the content. Unless Winamp etc (I dont care for Real Player, I think their software are pieces of advertising shit) has an activeX control for embedded videos etc, removing Media Player does more harm then good.
how about running Operation Xbox (the neoproject)
dont know if you guys remember this (and the official site was taken down) but this is description from xbox-scene.com
"The goal of Operation Project X is to crack the 2048-bit RSA private encryption key Microsoft uses to sign Xbox media. The goal of this project is to make it possible to run Linux on a Microsoft Xbox console without a so-called modchip. A total of US$ 100,000 will be awarded by Michael Robertson ("donor")."
I would love nothing more then to have every brand new computer running linux on them. The fact of the matter is that installing an application for linux and its removable is more complex for the basic user. Until theres a universal package and delivery system for linux that the average joe can point-and-click to install, linux is not going to take off the ground. And yes I know of apt-get and emerge and their GUI frontends, but really they arent simply enough. Remember we are working for more of a duh-duh idiot then you or me.
Its about time IE is getting proper PNG and CSS support but will IE7 work on Win95/98/NT/2K? I doubt it. So the IE problem is still going to be a problem for a good couple of years until those generations of Windows are phased out and replaced with upgrades (or switch OS).
As for IE7's features well they are just what Firefox and all the other browsers have had for years. I think if MS wants to stay ahead of this market they need to do annual updates to IE to keep it current and updated to the latest standards. And most important of all is to untie it from the core OS and make it a standard app.
I find it rather amusing that when Apple released the G3 to G5 they were saying how its way better then the latest Intel etc. But look at them now, they are pretty much dating the enemy.
Does this mean Apple are going to be saying that Intel are faster then PPC now???
if this means that macs will be cheaper for the consumer to purchase then thats the best option. Macs have been the best computer experience but comes at a costly price, but if that hardware cost could be cut down somehow then more people would flock to Apple. As for whether Apple's software might be on x86 arch, no one can predict how the people will react, especially if it were available for the whole x86 arch. I mean Apple do make some really good software and I would love to be able to run Mac OS X on my laptop. But whether it would be the same as on a mac or not, I cant say.
I just came back from the advance screening of Episode III and my thoughts on the movie are both positive and negetive. Not going to spoil anything what happens, to me its an all-out buck for most intensive action yet seen in a film. You like action, theres plenty and it will make you drool (still whiping face). If you can deal with more sudden changes in emotion then a girl going through menopause then this movie is for you.
I am a huge Star Wars fan, George Lucas is a creative genious. The breath and width of his characters is incredible. But what annoys me with this film is that he doesnt use those characters we all love to their full potential and characters that are new just jump into a scene as if we know all about them. The film is rushed, plain and simple. It is the best out of the first 3 sagas but I believe that Episode III should have been Episodes II and III and make the first 2 episodes into 1.
Now the story I do actually like, I think it fits in to the scheme of things really well, but the execution is poor. I man like Lucas who people admir and a source of inspiration for all I believe let us down. He is like a football hero who has come out of retirement to the game he loves but not have the game inside him as he once did. I would believe that the fans should have had a much bigger involvement in the making of the 3 films. People live and breath Star Wars and base their careers off the inspiration Star Wars has given them. I have played games, read books and watched movies based on Star Wars and the ideas those people have reworked with Lucas's own ties in so well. I just cant come to the fact that it ended like this.
I think Microsoft is upset for they're own bad luck. Another company has made something that is simple and easy to use and you know works and it works well.
Search is search and as long you find what your looking for, it doesnt matter which company you use. If you've actually looked at Microsoft's search site you will see it pretty much is Google's site with a few quirks and a different color scheme (to the user, not much is presented that shows Microsoft's search is better than Google's). I mean its not working out for Microsoft because they havent really shown anything better (to me at least) that would make me choose to use they're search against Google's. So far Google does what I need it to do. Maybe in the future when theres something I need to search for and Google cant do it for me I will find someone who can. I think Microsoft should know that having 2 of the same thing doesnt make one better then the other, its by offering better reliability and advancements on whats already been done that get you noticed, not hostility and public bashing.
Just recently Adobe is slowly showing more interests in Linux and its users. Now that they have Macromedia, whats the possibility to have say Dreamweaver and Flash for Linux? I would think that Linux and those 2 packages would make for the choice platform for web content developers. And if (and hope) they bring Photoshop to Linux as well then the transition would be simple for more developers and designers to make the jump to Linux.
I dont know what gets people going about speed on CPUs, also better performance. Yes more cache, higher bus speeds and a bigger fan do make for better computer experience but to me all it does is handle more of Windows bloat. I dont get why we have to fork out for a new and improved PC for the latest Windows when a computer thats just moderately new still can do the job just as well. I think all the software companies should refine their applications really push the PC to its limit. Look at Linux, sure it works well on todays computers but heck it still runs well on computer 5 years old. Linux and developers still have a place for the guys with the old computer. I really think software developers should work more on their programs to be as efficient as possible (mainly Microsoft)
I would personally prefer Windows XP Less Bloat Edition. Cut out all those extra features that make Windows slow as a dog. The only reason people who know theres a better alternative use Windows is for application compatibility. To use the applications that dont support other OS's.
As for the low-cost computers in Asia, manufacturers how about you pocket the money for the license for the Starter Edition and just use Linux. Its free, easy, and a far better alternative.
GDS might be limited but it just came out of beta and has more features but also allows the use of plug-ins. Since this is just new not many people are aware or had time to implement them. I think with time and the right plug-ins you will be able to customise how GDS works on your system.
I also like how you can pretty much use any language to make queries to the search for your own application and any COM supported language to make plug-ins. This in turn opens up the platform for a wide range of things.
There are so many different implementations of Desktop Search and none of them are wrong. Just find the one that works best for you. Google is simply using its own search technology at cracking the Desktop Search. Soon all the OS's will have it, Windows with its WinFS and Mac with its Spotlight and the Linux community are working on their own implementations like Beagle and Evidence. The day of Desktop Search is coming and all are open to some sort of privacy and exploit vulnerbilities but thats with any new product in this day and age.
thats because windows doesnt default the user's account to the limited user account. duh.
most people dont even know how to create accounts or that their are different account types.

"we must grant emergency powers (DRM, patents, etc) to the supreme chancellor (corporations) to deal with the separatists (users)"
this sounds all too familiar to me?

Bill I'm your biggest fan, I downloaded all of your company's products
