They probably weren't sued into oblivion because the original DIVX trademark was simply abandoned; trademarks are only valid as long as the owner defends it. Plus, Circuit City had other things to worry about, like it's core business going to the sh*tter,...
You mean, that they're completely unrelated in a similar sense to the products that Westinghouse is now lending its brand name to that are also completely unrelated (RTFA)?
What about the reverse effect of this? What I mean by that, are brands that went from being very poor, bottom dwelling no name brands to being something somewhat respected? Like DIVX, which went from being a much hated, big brotherish "movie rental" company, to a company that makes a widely used video player and format for internet video today. Granted, the **AA still doesn't give them much credit, but consumers seem to like it,. ..
The solution could actually be something like better incorporation of multiple feeds. I mean, they could spruce up the NASA TV cable network to make it a bit more appealing to the "brain dead crowd", while at the same time having the raw footage and all the good stuff (which, to non-Slashdotters, is ridiculously boring) on their website. This could probably work quite well for about a year or two under the right management, but unfortunately will inevitably be screwed up by Comcast, much in the same way that G4 screwed up TechTV.
IP Lawyers? Unfortunately, the Pope doesn't have access to them, considering that they've all been condemned to the firey pits of hell! Of course, one doesn't need IP Lawyers when all you have to do is ask God to smite all of the copyright "pirates" for you! Maybe CmdrTaco and CowboyNeal should each do 100 Hail Mary's to avoid being smitten?
Why doesn't the government try and make some money off of this? I mean, they could sell all the White House emails to Google -- $1/email -- and then google could set up a search engine for them. Something like, whitehouseemails.google.com, and we can search through them? Of course, they'd have to go through a security screen first, but still, I bet all the pundits on the right AND the left would go nuts over having access to something like this? =)
To George W. Bush, "birthright" seems to have just meant that he could get elected President, since his Daddy was. Once that happened, the rest of our "birthrights" went out the door when he trashed the Constitution,. ..
Even today, electricity is certainly not free. While it is almost ubiquitous (though there are a few households, even the US, without electricity), we all still pretty much pay the electric bill every month. Of course, you can get free power AND wi-fi in many coffee shops and airports, though many of these places are starting to hide their outlets more, to prevent people from coming in and camping out for a long period of time, using the shop as their "office",. ..
Actually, I thought the Zombies were all down the street in the Capitol? That would actually make for a pretty good L4D map -- 535 Zombie "specials", and all of them have about 10 or so "minions". It would certainly be a L4D massacre.
People actively seek out the information sources (radio, TV, internet) that support the opinions they already hold.
Well, that explains Fox News' success,... I wonder if all the conservatives are still going to watch it, though, when Rupert Murdoch puts it behind a paywall and expects them all to pay to watch and read that drivel?
The lack of critical thinking and overall intelligence these days is just astounding. And the news media knows this, and latches on to some of the most innane and minor things, blowing them up into ridiculous proportions. I was talking to a pre-med student at a fairly prestigious University on the east coast recently about Swine Flu. He told me that he doesn't intend to get a flu vaccine, because he saw this news report about a girl that got a vaccine and developed dystonia, causing her to not be able to walk properly and all that. One would think that someone studying to be pre-med would realize that the odds of something like this are pretty astronomical, and that 99.9% of people getting flu vaccines don't have these problems,... But nonetheless, the news media's "scare tactics" won out, and this report somehow was mistaken for some legitimate "education",... Frightening, really,...
I certainly hope this doesn't mean that, after the promotional period, the PIT airport will start charging for access. I like having free wi-fi while waiting for outbound flights here,... I fly to PHX a lot, too, and they have free wi-fi as well at Sky Harbor -- though they're not on the Google list.
What they're probably betting on is that more people will use this for non-PC devices, like iPhones and Blackberries with Wi-Fi capability, rather than people popping open their notebooks while waiting for flights. If you have your iPhone handy, it's easy enough to check a few emails quickly while waiting in line, as opposed to waiting for your computer to boot up and all that,...
Didn't you get that memo? If not, I'd just like to remind you that we're putting new coversheets on all the TPS reports now. So, if you could just try to remember . . . that would be greeeeaaaaat! Thanks!
I was going to say we should blame this on Windows Vista, until I saw the part about the computer system dating back to the 1970s, so that wouldn't work. Still, there's got to be some way we can put the fault on Micro$oft? Maybe the computer was in need of some necessary maintenance, and the technician whose responsibility that was was too tied up in a game of Minesweeper or Solitaire, or something?

Actually, on this ship, you are to refer to me as "Idiot", not "You Captain!"

It may not seem like much, but $8/hour goes quite a long ways in Bangalore, which is probably where the submitter is doing his internship. Right?
Ever hear of a sports bar? Some of the good ones even have good microbrew beer on tap, too, instead of the watered-down Anheiser-Busch crap!
What's his Slashdot UID?
Eric Cartman approves!
You mean, something called "Vista" actually works?!?! This is news!!!! ;-)
Google Trends data over in the past year shows that searches for "Jon Gosselin" exceed searches for "iran election", "healthcare reform", and "iraq war",. . .

Wanna bet? How many laws did President Bush break during his term of office?
How does one put down studies like this on their resume/CV when searching for a job?
