You would think that every marketing graduate would know that scare tactics turned PSA deliver some of the best unintentional satire created by man. I'll wait until it's in Netflix and do a double feature with "The Day After Tomorrow."
Absolutely. I used to have a 45-minute commute to work when I lived in New Jersey and I honestly can't remember the number of times that I was almost run into by someone in a 3-ton SUV that was talking or texting instead of driving.
Japanese taxi drivers frequently have the TV playing on their nav units while driving, but they are among the safest drivers I've ever ridden with. I think two way communication is far more taxing to a driver's attention than a receive-only medium.
...an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. My wife and I considered that before our daughter was born, and we couldn't not do it. We had all the risk factor screening that is typical now, and our daughter doesn't have any problems, but if her umbilical blood could someday help her or someone else's child, it seems like a no-brainer.
and if he were to choose the iPod Touch/iPhone it would be great if someone would develop a nice application or webapp that could integrate with linuxmce so we could do cool home automation stuff too.
On the topic of virtual identities, I can completely understand. The first ID I ever used on the net was Ship2c. At the time, I was in the Navy and liked it because besides from the obvious connection, it sounded like I was a revision of sorts which fits in well with the whole, "you are you, but in an internet sort of way" concept. Once I moved to Jacksonville, FL I tried using the Ship2c moniker with my ISP and was rebuffed, so I took the obvious (to me) route of place and initials. Despite the many confused people who thought I patterned myself after some fight game character (JAX is the airport code for Jacksonville International), it was simple enough to remember with little little typing required on my part. (jacksonvilletravisjames seemed a little cumbersome) It's not that weird that you are attached to CmdrTaco, in a virtual sense it's just who you know yourself to be. JaxTJ doesn't really fit anymore(living in Joisey), but what else am I going to be that's easy to remember that will be readily available on almost any site I have to register for?
I have done a couple of jobs for business associates of an uncle and charged $50 to show up and then $20/hr. From what my uncle was telling me that's a little low compared to what he's used to paying, but I'm only doing it occasionally and am not using it as my primary income.
For my uncle it's free, but I usually tell him it's in barter for time on his sailboat.

The TV/Nav units in Japan (and other parts of Asia) have no such restriction and it's only a problem for lazy stupid Americans.*
*Disclaimer: JaxTJ is an American that is motivated by laziness and sometimes does stupid things.
