    Honestly, let's just stop at telling people why it's *good*. If someone asks how it's better than Windows, okay. Otherwise, why bother? If you mention Cool Feature XYZ and they realize Windows/Word/Photoshop doesn't do that, hasn't the point gotten across?

    Either you don't know anything about SL or you're a troll.

    The changes aren't just "bug fixes" or "holes", they're major refinements of every part of the OS. Also, exchange support. Plenty of business users would pay $50 just for exchange support.

    IBM is not being sold off piecemeal. They're moving jobs outside the U.S. because they have no incentive to stay here.

    To claim that ANYTHING is unbiased is ridiculous. The only thing to do is read from sources that state their bias up-front.

    Bias is not always bad. Pretending it's not there (Fox, CNN) is.

    I think that's the point. They impose caps so that bandwidth isn't saturated (AT&T, anyone?) and if they can accommodate more capacity at higher speeds, they can safely raise the caps too. That's (part of) why AT&T is scrambling to upgrade its networks.

    I think you're onto something. It's not perfect, but all other solutions require (1) near-human AI, (2) the original file as a control, or (3) comparing filesize which may not be accurate, as described in other comments.

    What concerns me is that if citizens aren't active in the local government, it'll quickly fall apart and the national government won't even matter. It's important because citizens *can* have a profound impact on their local government, but fewer will do so if there isn't good information out there.

    That's something that cannot be done genetically, I would assume. Either way I think this was done after-market.

    phpBB and MySQL are on my list too. As a younger coder, I can honestly say phpBB and MySQL shaped my view of programming and, honestly, changed my life.

    I'm glad I didn't learn formatting and documentation from PHP-Nuke.

    In addition, cars *are* much faster, traffic jams or not. Just because they appear to have similar problems (pollution, traffic jams) doesn't mean it's not a huge leap forward.

    Uhm, "$" is not a "special symbol". It's a valid symbol that can be used in any Javascript variable names.

    But they all existed for some time and were enforced to some extent. And there's (serious) talk of bringing the Fairness Doctrine back.

    My point was that "free speech" is not as universally held dear and timeless as we'd like to imagine.

    Just because you don't like hip-hop, rap, or synthesized/corrected vocals, doesn't mean it's not art or not music. Music is an intensely personal experience. I think it's kind of cool that artists are using tools like this.... and if you don't like it, don't listen - but that doesn't mean the artists are talentless or not "authentic".

    No, I definitely agree. I agree with Leo Laporte's take on that, I think AAPL devs and tech support would be fine with antivirus - but not the marketing team.

    I've never claimed on /. that Apple has better security. In private, to family, years ago - and I've since repented. I'm just saying, it's silly to criticize Apple for this.
    It's also silly to criticize Microsoft if there are torrents of virus-laden MS Office floating around.
