  1. trolling was the least of their worries on Yahoo! Takes Down News Message Boards · · Score: 1

the yahoo boards are famous for their trolls but yahoo couldnt care less about them. yahoo possibly incouraged flame wars by posting 'loaded' stories so they would get high click throughs for their ad's.
the main reason yahoo is "improving" their boards (e.g shutting the old filthy ones down) is because a lawyer named Stephen Galton is suing them over the fact he was badmouthed. some think there is some sort of political motive as well.
new boards are available but are filled with spam and it doesnt look like yahoo cares. there is also a way to use the old ones as well but there is no point when there is nobody on them that you can wind up.

as an "18 to 25 year old" i find it strange that we know more about space than we do our oceans.
some of the weird creatures at the bottom of the ocean seem far more weird than any E.T.
i say forget space, focus on the sea first.

  3. the irony of blocking ads on Why Do You Block Ads? · · Score: 1

i now spend more time going through sourcecode, modifing host files, updating firefox prefs/extensions than what i would have done watching the lame ad :-)

the reason i block ads (for myself): waste of bandwidth, too much garbage, and #1 - i have no idea what the ad's are 99% of the time (same with tv etc). the ad might be showing something that i would think is the best product ever but i would have no idea what it is (think of the Simpsons ep "Mr Plow" where Homer gets a really fancy ad with an opera singer and stuff instead of using his own homemade one)

the reason i block ads (for family etc): the "i have spyware" calls to me have been cut down by about 99%

more and more people use txt spk and have various codes for words e.g. ROTFLMAO, so why not put some of these in passwords?

the user knows what it is yet its gibberish looking at it and if you have secret text words between friends, even better (as long as said friend is not looking to hack your account)

i want a search engine to find the real stuff i want and no junk without tweaking and tweaking.

how many users would do the -xyz after coming up with spam sites time and time again? i expect they would just close the search

i got asked to do the survey about this (link now dead) and i guess i must have been putting the right answers because they gave me access to a beta site so i could do more questionaires on it.

i looked for about 3 seconds, its just like another blog site to me.

  11. no naughty words, just office politics on Why MS is Not Opening More Source Code · · Score: 1

i know its fun to have the old M$ jokes but what about internal politics?

the world (us) see Microsoft corp as one entity and we are told one story from them e.g. IE is good/stable (but thats another topic) but inside i bet you like anything there is varying views on this:

/** Why does IE need to go here??? **/
/** WMP plugin doesnt and shouldnt be allowed to work here **/
    etc

maybe not the obvious ones like that but i think they are valid examples.
what would people say about MS as a whole if they saw the inside of it was divided and annoyed over things such as IE?
