Look, I use it - have had every version of Windows and DOS since the first one - except for WindowsME.
But like it? That's going way too far.
Put up with it - much more accurate description...
That said, though, in the end the only reason I still have a WinXP machine is so I can play Sims 2 on it. Seriously.
Everything else I have works on Linux or my Mac Mini with OS X.
And looking at WinVista requirements - I was finally enjoying paying $500 for a high speed 11b/g laptop - I don't want to shell out another $2000 to buy a computer that should be a commodity like a TV that sells for $300 to $500, just so I can run what appears to be mostly graphics upgrades to look pretty that would be far cheaper on a Mac. So, given they've jacked the OS price for Win Vista to double, unless some killer app comes out - I'm taking my Open Office and my Opera and my Firefox and migrating off of Windows forever when they kill WinXP support.
I'm sure I'm not alone in this decision.

And a lot of other people like me who went low-tech and ditched our cell phones are interested.
No matter how you slice it, it's like Nintendo doing the Wii game expansion into casual gamers and women and girls and old people.
It expands the market.
Now, I had a cell phone for a few years, but it was just a hassle - now this comes along and I'm interested.
To me, that means it's a market expanding concept - and the naysayers are mostly those who've been shoving stuff we don't want down our throats and turning off people like me in the process.
Here at work we use Firefox, as we're a mostly Linux shop.
However, a few of us have WinXP or Win2K boxen. We only use IE to download Windows updates.
So, the metrics would say we have one-third IE users and 100 percent Firefox users - but in reality, we have 100 percent Firefox users.
Now if they could stop downloading updates to our printer drivers that then stop working with our printers - on our Win machines - we would probably spend even less time using IE to download updates.
I think you're misunderestimating how long it takes to get through the Wii's Zelda, or how much fun can be had from that rabbits game, or the bundled sports title. Sure, I'd like an MMO, but it's not like I'm spending all my Wii time playing GC games, or that I've downloaded even a single virtual console title.
Good point. I still haven't finished playing any of the titles - even picked up a copy of Sims 2: Pets for the Gamecube (man it loads fast on the Wii).
But, I should say, it's possible some people - even though the Wiis are flying off the shelves even today - may not have been able to reset their wireless to broadcast on channel 1 or 11 and still can't download on channel 6.
That said, it's noticeable that the demand for PS3s has dropped in both Japan and the US. Does not bode well.
I sold out my 400 shares of Sony after the E3 fiasco. About 83 shares of NTDOY.PK are actually my son's - when he gets up to 100 shares (first it was Konami, then Sony, then Nintendo) then I transfer them to his account - he gets 1 share for a B, 2 shares for an A, loses 1 share for a C, and loses 2 shares for a D, and an F means 0 shares.
My grandparents were like me, they saved and invested obsessively. I own most of my house and own my car outright.
I'm starting to wonder if you're really on the Nintendo payroll, since you almost seem to sneak in a "pro-Nintendo" comment in every one of your postings.
No, they work for me. I own something like 500 shares of Nintendo. Just like I own shares of Microsoft - and actually my ex may be working for them soon.
It's a small place, Seattle.
But I used to own Sony, and Konami. Even though I sold Konami, love some of their new games! Since it's a snow day, my son's playing Trauma Center today.. needs to work on his stitching...
Regardless, I've owned a Microsoft OS as my main machine since MS DOS 1.0 or 1.1 (can't remember which), at the dawn of time.
BTW, telling me that you're a day trader is a very bad choice for convincing me that you know what is going on around you.
I'm not a day trader. Most of my stocks are held for 2-5 years on average.
But it still wasn't funny, which is why I responded to it.
Not everyone can be George Carlin, but most people think they can be if they just swear enough and jump around, just as most people can't design games even if they can play them. Same goes for hip hop.
Regardless, Sony is not doing well, even by Microsoft's standards for console and game sales.
thanks for ignoring the facts. I get mine from the Wall Street Journal daily paper, mostly. And I've yet to find a reputable business source - WSJ, NYT, WP, CNBC - that doesn't report that Nintendo is doing a heck of a lot better than Sony with their new console launches and demand for same.
but, feel free to ignore me - I just sold about $34K in stocks and bought $23K in stocks today - not one of which had zilch to do with gaming, or Japan.
No, it's because the PS3 is twice as good as the Wii, so every PS3 sold is like 2 Wiis sold.
So that's why I frequently come across stores with PS3 sitting on store shelves, but never stores with Wii consoles sitting on shelves - in fact, whenever they get a shipment of Wii consoles it sells out within 10-15 minutes...
and he apparently has noticed that while he was fighting head-to-head with Sony's PS3, Nintendo's Wii embraced and extended themselves and created a new battlefield - old people, women, and girls - while also winning over most of the "market" of 13-35 year old males traditionally thought of as the focus.
That plus the Nintendo Wii is selling way more consoles and games in Japan, according to an article I just read in the New York Times in the tech section.
No. That's why the Wii is doing so well - they don't assume people don't want to play games, they assume they're bored with FPS and having to memorize multi-button combos.
That plus most of the games have not been geared to other ages.
Quite frankly, I'd rather have a prebundle, with the new 3G graphics drivers for the nVidia card.
It's not that I don't mind rolling it out, it's that I'd rather spend my time working on the software end than trying to make sure I configured it correctly.
Seriously, I've owned at least one primary home machine that ran MS-DOS or Windows since the first version, and have a WinXP laptop at home, but I've just plain given up on Vista. I'm going to migrate to the Wii and maybe buy a Mac OS/X laptop if I can't get a decent Linux laptop.
My current plan is to buy a WinXP laptop right when they release Vista and the prices drop. Then I'm not going to upgrade - ever.
Been a long time coming, but I've pretty much had it, and with MySQL and Open Office, don't feel the need to fork over even more money to MSFT. Especially when I can get a laptop for $500 by not doing so.
Grandma is not suddenly going to become a gamer and replace her TV watching with gamers every day. But with the console making a profit at the outset, that doesn't matter anymore. Which is great news for Nintendo.
Actually, one of the surprises on Wall Street is that Grandma and the 40-65 yo parents are buying the Wii and playing games on it. Market sales show this - it's kind of amazing, really. And not just in the US, but worldwide.
Yeah, I know. I have that, but only could find Sims 2: University for the Mac, not the other releases. Console versions are more limited.
At least Spore will work on the Wii - then I'll have no reason to want to get Vista.
Look, I use it - have had every version of Windows and DOS since the first one - except for WindowsME.
...

That spells success - for Apple.
just thinking of treble damages ...

if it was a simple joke, everyone would have got it.

I've won pun contests with Spider Robinson and William Gibson - have you? Didn't think so
I also own Microsoft. I used to own Sony. When I saw E3, I realized they were in a death spiral. Nothing has changed there.
Besides, I make more from my European stocks.

Just because it's a study doesn't mean it's scientifically valid or correct.
Reality is based on observation.
Haven't you heard of Linux? That's my next laptop after the final WinXP one. That or a Mac OS/X.
I'm starting to wonder if you're really on the Nintendo payroll, since you almost seem to sneak in a "pro-Nintendo" comment in every one of your postings.

Quite right you are pointing out the missing step, here it is:
3. ???
Darn. Guess you get the US $8000 bounty. Now, let's see, that's about 2 Euros, right?
1. Put bounty of $8000 on bugs for Vista and IE7.
2. Get friend to go work at MSFT.
.
4. PROFIT!

out of paranoia.
CSIS couldn't fight their way out of a weathered sopping paper bag, even if they had a pair of scissors.
But you never heard it from me. And if I had held a SECRET clearance in Canada, I'd have to pretend I didn't know what I don't know.

Too bad Rise of Nations is owned by Microsoft.
That and Fable and Fable II. I'd love to play a Wii version of those.
Quite frankly, I'd rather have a prebundle, with the new 3G graphics drivers for the nVidia card.
It's not that I don't mind rolling it out, it's that I'd rather spend my time working on the software end than trying to make sure I configured it correctly.
I'm sure that will make both of those Zune owners very happy.

Hope they haven't decided to jump after seeing the iPhone launch videos
