Actually, in recent interviews, Reggie has stated that they're putting together the demos, and are working out ways to ensure that the controllers don't get stolen.
Dang. There go my plans to Rule The World with my Nintendo Revolution controllers used to order my virtual armies of Jedi Wookies!
Seriously, I think 1024MB of ram doesn't cut it these days. Maybe we should just accept 4gb of ram will be the norm in 2007-2008. I seriously could use it with other memory hungry apps that are sluggish *coughs* Illustrator *coughs* Indesign *coughs*.
I personally think that noone will ever need more than 640gb of RAM. So let's hard code that in, shall we?
They have had upgradable video cards for laptops for a while now. All the Dell M170/Insp90000/XPS have them, among others. You just limited yourself by cheaping out on a budget laptop.
Or... by saving $2500 today and investing it in Canadian, Japanese, and Euro value stocks... my $4000 in two years can be used to buy - the exact same upgradeable system for $1000 and leave me with $3000 to blow on game software and titles.
So, who's smarter - the guy who buys an xBox360 on Amazon for $2500 in Dec 2005 - or the guy who waits until Dec 2006 and buys the xBox360 bundled with all the useful stuff and a couple of good games at Costco for $200?
My money's on the latter, not the former.
[caveat - my first degree was in Marketing and Sales]
'm waiting to see which one makes the best cheap server. Last generation, the Xbox won by a mile, but this time, it's not clear, and it's uncertain that any of them will be better than a similarly-priced PC off ebay.
My bet would be the xBox360, after the price drops. MSFT has a habit of selling hardware below production costs, Sony will do it to compete but tends to get close to break-even, and Nintendo always makes money on their consoles and handhelds.
Most MSFT game consoles only break even if you buy at least four game titles new for it - most Sony game consoles break even if you buy a bundle and then one more game - Nintendo is already in profit on the console so it's all gravy and they can drop game prices if needed.
Aye, I'm one of the many who has printed out the script that Gibson wrote and it's now in a nice handmade book on my shelves.
You should hear Bill read his scripts. He wowed them at Boreal 87 - something about his delivery just changes an otherwise excellent script into an intensely fascinating and excellent script.
And I haven't seen Shaun yet (bad Sammy! bad!) but I have to say that I'm inclined to agree.
I saw the movie with the Director, and I have to say it was the most fun I've ever had at a zombie movie. Something about the British sense of humour just does it for me.

And what really burned me up, was Maxis included all but one of the changes I wanted in the game - wind turbines, hydro dams, etc. - but I couldn't get them running with anything other than a minimal map and few active boxes.
1. upgrade my RAM to 708MB 2. turn off all other programs 3. use/AboveNormal in a script to push the game into high-use mode 4. turn my monitor to a lower display resolution.
Also the PS3 will not launch any less than $500 without absolutely massive losses per unit. The 360 at this point will have markdowns to around $250.
Perhaps, but with still no killer games out, that won't make me buy the xBox360. I'll wait till Fall 06 to decide which one looks good, and wait till post-Thanksgiving 06 to look for good reviews of actual games on each system.
Still, it sounds like that's a pre-release, so we shouldn't expect more than canned script game previews, no working models with working games. That sounds like Fall 06.
"Needless to say, the main constricting factor for Xbox 360 sales continues to be the poor supply of the console, rather than a lack of consumers to purchase it."
to which I'd say, the main reason, even though MSFT (which I own shares in) throttled production to force a demand crunch, is that there just aren't any games out that make you have to buy an xBox360.
I said: Unless... they come out with Grand Theft Auto: Seattle... now, that would be sweet, using the choppers on top of the hospitals here, jumping onto car ferries while being pursued, using a cycle to get on the Ice Cream Cruise, and riding across the swinging bridge or using the Monorail track to bypass traffic jams.
I would buy that just to take the 520 to Medina and take out Macrohard founder Gil Bates.
Actually, it would be sweet to use the LINK lightrail tunnel (not in operation, while it's being built) to get from Rainier Valley to the Convention Center, or from the Convention Center to Roosevelt High School, or drive up the big stairs at Husky Stadium, go across the bridge, ride the new 520 bridge right before it's built (swerving around some of the workers and trucks), and then hop off (maybe a killer jump sequence, where you shoot up a build ramp and barely make it to shore, then go over to Gill B to ride over his salmon stream inside his house while wife and kids run screaming...
especially if the GBA player can be attached to the NR... I am 100% sold. It would mean that I can play 100% of the games I regularly play on my current box/SP with the new one, plus the game download service and unique interface.
According to the Konami and Nintendo shareholders meetings - translated into English, mind you - from this year, it looks like the GBA player will be attachable to the NR, and have wireless connections too.
We have an old school xbox in our living room on a DLP projector, and it already looks pretty good. I really only play Fable and Morrowind GOTY on it, and my roommates only play Halo 2 and Madden. As of yet we are not impressed enough to split a 360. That box will likely stay there until we can actually compare PS3 and Xbox 360 side to side.
I agree. I only play Fable (ok, Fable: The Lost Tales or whatever the upgrade was), Sims 2 (new), and Lego Star Wars on the xBox. The rest of the games I find pretty boring. I'll wait until we can look at PS3, NR, and xBox360 - and only believe in games I can demo and see reviews for. I bought the xBox on the hype of games, and I'm not going to shell out good money until I see real games and can test and compare them for all the systems.

That's cause Super Mario World (and Mario 64) were games that were worth their price plus the system in and of itself:)
Now, if they come out with something really cool like Super Mario Kart but better for the PS3 and have fun games (not just more FPS), then I'll buy it.
In the end, it's the games, not the console. You can have all the features since the cows came home, but if it doesn't have fun games then I'm just not interested.
Nah, I'm just going to go there, say "Does it work with my laptop?" then have it demo'd, and then say "Does it work with the PS3?" and have them show me.
If it doesn't work out of the box, I just won't buy it.

Is love a chemical?
A neural pathway in the brain?
A learned response?
A reaction to reciprocal behavior?
Sex?
Remembered instances of happiness (or less pain)?
Maybe it's all of the above - and none of the above.
We use one word when maybe there are many.
if you want to fall in love.
Of course, if you're a schizophrenic axe-murdering psychopath, um, maybe you don't want to fall in love.
or at least not until you go on a hunting party with our VP.

I personally think that noone will ever need more than 640gb of RAM. So let's hard code that in, shall we?
Is it still a feature then?
Or is it - instead - a personally-resolved memory cache integrity issue that you submitted to the code base?
Huh?

PC games are all programmed under the assumption that people can upgrade their hardware.
I've got a laptop. Other than the memory, I can't upgrade the video or sound cards.
On my GameCube, I did upgrade the memory.
My xBox is upgradeable, not that I ever did.
I fail to see how this is different.
Oops, my faulty memory.
I just did the math, you're right. Three 128mb RAM chips, one is in external port, swap out 1-128 and replace with 1-512mb and you get 768mb.
Same diff.
man, that thing ran so slow that it died.
And what really burned me up, was Maxis included all but one of the changes I wanted in the game - wind turbines, hydro dams, etc. - but I couldn't get them running with anything other than a minimal map and few active boxes.
Now if I could only upgrade the video card on my eMachines AMD 2600 laptop ...
And even on my new system it locks up.
/AboveNormal in a script to push the game into high-use mode
But to properly pay Sims 2, I had to:
1. upgrade my RAM to 708MB
2. turn off all other programs
3. use
4. turn my monitor to a lower display resolution.
Luckily, it was worth it.
Also the PS3 will not launch any less than $500 without absolutely massive losses per unit. The 360 at this point will have markdowns to around $250.

Thanks!

Then why is there GTA: LA?
... or Jet City ... those are the other nicknames for Seattle.
Hmm. How about Emerald City
If they name it, it would be a fake name. Probably GTA: Cascadia. With different names for Seattle, Vancouver.
I've made the Vancouver BC to Seattle run in two hours. Trick is to time the high speed runs for the areas where there aren't cops.
"Needless to say, the main constricting factor for Xbox 360 sales continues to be the poor supply of the console, rather than a lack of consumers to purchase it."

Ports and remakes won't do it.

That would be a sweet title. GT5: Seattle, maybe?

Unless
The Xbox had Halo, the Xbox360 has... nothing even close to that in terms of popularity.
Exactly. And hearing it's going to have Halo 3 is just, well, not that exciting.
Wake me up when it's got something good to play on it. Something interesting.
That's cause Super Mario World (and Mario 64) were games that were worth their price plus the system in and of itself :)
