What has changed is that over the past 20 or so years, our government has bribed the leaders, financially ruined, financed revolts, caused starvation of citizens, declared bogus war on, killed tens of thousands of citizens of many oil rich countries all for gaining access to oil reserves. This kind of thing tends to make people hate you, perhaps after a while, even seek revenge against you any way possible. This is what the U.S. government is calling "terrorism". Perhaps it is now real, perhaps it is smoke to keep the U.S. citizens from seeing what is really going on in this country's affairs.
All being done using the "terrorism threat" as an excuse... funny how there was no terror threats real or imagined in the U.S. until the government began blowing up other countries to get at their old reserves... hmmm...
Novell today is far removed from the high tech company that it was 20 years ago. Back then, a file server was considered high technology... and Novell set the standard that everyone else tried to reach. What killed Novel, the high technology company, was the loss of the original very smart designers and the onslaught of suit mentality that ensued. Windows became more popular because it's operating system went far beyond just basic file serving functionality. Novell had no new ideas to incorporate into it's file serving operating system because the smart people working there bailed and were never successfully replaced. This happens to a lot of good companies. They get a little fame under their belts for some successful innovation, the suits tighten the reigns and take over, the company then goes to hell in a hand basket.
"...How many Alan Kays or Tim Berners-Lees could be hired with the immense pile of wealth they've reaped off the Windows/Office juggernaut? A lot. Lots of money means the potential to be hella innovative by hiring the right people..."
Throwing money at a problem doesn't usually result in innovation. More likely, just more people getting paid to look busy. Welcome to corporate america.
The "Law" is this case is corporate mega-money induced extensions to the law. Since law makers will always give priority to the mega-money holders/contibutors... having a "let's change the laws" attitude is very naive and will never work unless you happen to have more money than your opponents.
That fucker [Reed Freeman] ought to be in jail, not running a high position post in our government. It seems that the U.S. government continues to take the country down the toilet...
Microsoft giving away free anti-spyware is like tobacco companies giving away free oxygen tanks. Why doesn't Microsoft fix the Windows operating system so that such band-aids are not required in the first place? Instead of designing their operating system so that it can be used as an advertising platform, they should design it as a secure working environment. What a bunch of pathetics they are...

...well I already said so...
