Yes, of course, it's not a REAL black hole...Uhh...

Oops, I forgot to carry the "2".

  2. This is easy on Putting Anti-Evolution Candidates On the Spot · · Score: 0

Just ask them why God created retroviruses.

When they start talking about sickness, correct them and say:
    "No, not viruses, retroviruses"

When they ask "what are retroviruses?", say:

"Retroviruses are viruses that infect DNA, and when the DNA is copied, the retrovirus is copied. So, if you have this retrovirus, your kids will have it in the exact same spot, and their kids, and their kids, etc... When we look at the DNA of humans and compare it to the DNA of chimps, we find that there are many retroviruses in common, all in the exact same location. So, if evolution isn't true, why do you think God is trying to trick us into thinking it is with these retroviruses?"

  3. Re:This is so bad. on Minneapolis To Go Wireless · · Score: 0

Not to mention it will drive out the private sector, since noone will be able to compete with free or taxpayer subsidized service. So residents will be stuck with one option, the government provided service. And government provided services fucking suck So, the service is so competitive (good) that it will drive out all the other competition, which is bad because it will obviously "fucking suck"? Is that right?

  4. Re:Get the job done. on Lessons Proprietary Software Can Teach Open Source · · Score: 0

Well, sometimes it's about doing a good job, sometimes it's all about marketing.

It's not the quality of coca-cola that gets people to pay an inflated price for it, it's the assault of sounds and images subconciously linking emotional bliss to it that make people want a coke.

Proprietary software relies on sales to survive, meaning marketing is a neccessity. You have to figure out how people work. How they buy. Why they install, etc, and they pay shiteloads of money to make sure they do so. The initial popularity of anything is due to its marketing strategy.

What FOSS needs is better marketing. Maybe there could be a new project: Open source marketing?

  5. Re:The big question... on Web-Only Album Wins Grammy · · Score: 0, Flamebait

I think that this is an attempt to legitimize the grammies. You know how these archaic lame-duck institutions are desperately trying to be "hip", they figure they can give a grammy to one of them there "world wide interweb" musicians so that they are new and cool like the internet is.

It's kind of like giving a grammy nomination to "blame canada" in the south park movie.

  6. Re:QUESTION #4: WHY SEX? on Digital Life and Evolution · · Score: 1

It's about POWER and ATTRACTION. These are the two things that allow a male and female to mate. The developement and success of sexual reproduction is obvious: power (and, hence, evolutionary success). Attraction is usually what we think of when we think of "inneficiency", but think about how quickly a species can develope if, for instance, females were attracted to males that were the fastest, strongest, and most efficient--oh, that's right, they are (here I'm defining "efficiency" as economic efficiency). This begs the question, though, "what if females were attracted to poor fat slobs who just sit around all day"? Well, what would happen is I would get laid a lot more often, and the species would probably fail because the lions and large apes would dominate the planet. So we have a situation where there is an evolution of attraction, making sexual reproduction more and more beneficial to the species (kind of a sub-evolution). In order to really complete this process and more accurately simulate actual evolutionary processes, a way must be developed to have systems of communication between individuals and sexual ATTRACTION evolve. When you think about it, attraction and social evolution are the more effecient forms of evolution, whereas physical evolution is more of a slower "meta-evolution", forming the foundation for the REAL evolution to take place.
