Umm... let's see what exact off the wall predictions you're referring to here:
Among these [post NT 5.0 design points] are 64-bit support, more and better clustering, richer and more fully integrated client-server storage and data-center class management, said company officials.
Nothing crazy there...
user interfaces in the post-NT 5.0 timeframe will be "maintenance-free" and "adaptive"
Maintenance-free might be stretching things, but still, nothing too objectionable.
Other post-NT 5.0 features outlined by Allchin included the unification of Web and Win32 application programming interfaces
We can see their work on this beginning with.NET...
Allchin said that post-NT 5.0, Microsoft will "take NT up into the traditional mainframe arena, but also down into the embedded and real-time" spaces
Here's that mainframe quote... all right, not quite there yet, but he does say "post-NT 5.0." I'm not trying to be a microsoft apologist, but this is hardly the ridiculous article you made it out to be.
has anyone been able to get mozilla to build under irix 6.x? I've followed the instructions at www.mozilla.org/unix/irix.html, but building still fails on my machine... anyone know of a place to snag binaries?

The funny thing is, one of the fraternities here at MIT has actually set up an e-toilet... they hooked up the flushing mechanism to a networked printer, so you can flush the toilet from anywhere on campus!
gotta love those faq's at the bottom of the page...
q: can motorola help me out at all in finding an alternative satellite service provider?
a: motorola cares deeply about its customers. However, motorola feels it cannot provide you any more help than listing a couple of phone numbers at this time.
This comment is *not* insightful, it's just plain wrong... the device can play both mp3's and mpe's... you just get some extra features with mpe's (lyrics and copyright info).
I've been looking around for a switch that can handle sun sparcs (and preferably accomodate a pc or two as well, but that's not necessary). I haven't been able to find one that's not outrageously expensive. Anyone have any leads on a 4 way switch, under $300 if possible?
You know what I meant... (too used to typing in linux at that lilo prompt)... the first line of the story claimed linus is retiring, something I haven't heard before.
As the proud owner of a 150mhz r4400, i'm happy...

you should use X -bpp 8 :1 if you're already running a server on :0.

Since when is linux retiring?
