There are almost 250 million firearms in the USA currently. New firearms are currently sold at a rate of about 4 million per year. Since this law would only apply to new firearms the folks who passed this legislation will likely be dead before even half of the firearms in the US had the microstamped firing pin. This is a great example of a law that will have no practical applications except to bolster the anti-gun resumes of some legislators.
The way that you have setup Windows update is different than most large corporate environments. YOU have configured the update service to prompt you when updates are available and allow you to choose which to install. In most multi thousand PC Windows networks you do not want to give users that power, you configure the service to install patches for security issues and ONLY those applications already installed. The ONLY those applications currently installed part is the problem. MS is forcing the installation of a NEW program which WAS NOT already installed. They are ignoring the choice made by the sys admins and installing the search application whether they wanted it or not.
Mod this up. This nails perfectly the reasons that Apple has released Safari for Windows.
They don't care a bit about taking market share in the browser space, that would just be icing on the cake. What they really needed was a way to get web developers to write apps for the iPhone which has no SDK. The only 3rd party apps will be Safari web apps and non-Mac developers needed a way to write to the platform without being forced to buy a Mac if the iPhone is going to be successful.
If their goal really is to make Linux available to the curious masses, is this the right platform? In my opinion, it would be better to make such a push on a platform people almost everyone is comfortable on, the PC. Why haven't we seen a big push through the various media platforms to make Linux visible? I would love to see things like live CDs shipped with mainstream magazines, a few commercials, CD distribution in retail stores etc.
As for the device itself, I agree with previous posts about too little storage. If the device doesn't have slots for external flash memory it is useless to me.
Thank you to the developers of OO for creating a good alternative to MS Office. Thank you for your hard work and dedication. I will use OO 2 because it works well and is compatible with MS Office formats.
Oh, wait. It requires a free JVM available for 99.9% of the OSs available. Guess what, that is OK with me.
If you don't like it, change it! Isn't that what free software is all about. Show us, oh holy coders, how you can make it better without using Java.
If you don't like it and can't make it better, buy Windows and MS Office. Maybe that will make you feel better.
