yeah. PHP started as a collection of PERL scripts called "Personal Home Page Tools" or something. Of course, this was just a precursor to PHP as its own scripting language.
Should be great for the morning commute. I am tired of wasting all that time driving. Now I can enjoy a feature length film in HD on the way to work.
I was getting tired of watching the road anyway.
Depends. Code behind files really help seperate the logic from the display. If you use the built in data readers and such you do rely on the ASP.Nets built in javaScript functions but that is no way to build high demand sites. We end up not using many of ASP.Net's built-in front-end features because of performance reasons.
While your comment about OO for front-end stuff is true most of our business is back-end processing. The website itself is just a pretty front for all the work that is being done behind the scenes. With 100+ developers it is helpful to use OO.
Right or not most large companies prefere MS over OSS.
Ok. forget LAMP.
Do the same search for jobs that require PHP as the primary language. Again just a handful. Normally when you see PHP is at the end of a long list of random technologies. You know,"Must be an expert in Java, C++, ASP.Net, COBOL, COM. Also useful to have experience with PHP and PERL."
All my personal sites plus all my side contracting sites run on LAMP.
I really enjoy working with PHP but...do a search on any tech job board and you will find all two job openings for people with LAMP experience. Embarrassed to say it but I went out and learned ASP.Net/C# so I could make a living.
I realize there are VERY large PHP/MySQL site out there but I haven't had that many opportunities to scale a PHP app in a commercial environment. I wonder how many full time PHP developers there are out there and how many of those work on enterprise level websites. Can't be that many can it?
(Perhaps we never see these types of openings(LAMP) because developers are so happy with their job that new positions rarely open - heh)
I have seen IR polymer films with the ability to reflect IR wave lenghts but allow the visible spectrum to pass through mostly unobstructed. A piece of this stuff could be easily trimmed to fit in your plate frame. Sounds like it would render your plate invisible to this reader.
Because it is a good idea to store all your passwords on someone else's machine.
Besides this has already been done. Currently all my usernames and passwords are stored in a.txt file that I put in the root dir of my web site. Now it is cached by Google and Wayback. I can access them anywhere I want.
...thereby generating more inequality??? What whining drivel!
Why does it always have to be about the lowest common denominator? How is it fair to the smarter students to have their work dumbed down so that the lower half of the class can have good self-esteem? How is limiting one student's education in favor of another student's slower pace not an inequality?
If the United States is going to compete with India and China in academics it is time to encourage the advanced student. There is no inequality in providing extra opportunities for achievers. Some kids are smarter than others. Get over it and help them succeed.
<side rant>Parents - It is not the school's job to make sure your child is educated. It is yours. The school can help but in the end it is your child and your responsibility. Step up to the plate and stop blaming others for you child's deficiencies. </side rant>
I firmly believe there is a panic chip installed in every computer ever made. I discovered this chip quite by accident during my days as an undergrad. Regardless the system I was working on it would function fine until an hour before my program was due. Without fail the system would choke and in the process corrupt/lose/overwrite/hide all my data (Mainly my COBOL compiler). Of course how do you tell an undergrad from a grad student. The grad student saves his work in more than one place. At one point I considered switching to finance or something. It never occured to to have backups of my programs.
I agree the full terms were not readily clear in the advertising but that is to be expected. They were, however, readily available and easily understood in the terms and conditions section. IANAL and it was still easy to understand the limitations to their offer. My thought process was,"Wow, that is a really good deal. I am probably missing something so I had better go find out what." Turns out I was right but it was easy to figure out. It was not like Blockbuster was trying to hide the fact you couldn't just keep the video forever.
While the corporation needs to be honest/ethical it is just as much part of the consumer's job to be educated.
Are you saying then that robots a few thousand years in the future should teach that they were formed by a handful of random Lego pieces produced by a large explosion?
And that these Lego pieces randomly combined and recombined for millions of years producing robots with the sophistication to contemplate their own existence?
Sounds reasonable...
Mathematical proof that blogging is not journalism

Is Blogging Journalism?
·
· Score: 2, Insightful
Judging by the number of new blogs that I see on a daily basis we can assume that the total number of blogs in existence approaches infinity.
Nearly every one of these blogs is either some clod's diary of the daily mundane or a rant session not meant as anything other than...well a rant.
For those blogs that intend to be journalistic only a handful exercise due diligence to ensure the facts presented are based on reality. More often than not, many of these blogs are rants disguised as news or political commentary. Nothing journalistic about them.
This being the case we can safely assume there are only a finite number of blogs that can actually be considered journalistic in nature.
Since a finite number divided by an infinite number is essentially 0 we can say with certainty the blogging is indeed not journalism

I have seen steerwheel mounts for laptops believe it or not. Absolutely amazing.
Very interesting/informative except it does nothing toward being funny. How in the world do you expect my post to reach +5 funny.
Seriously though interesting post.

Hmm... I just realized this was posted as a review from ExtremeTech. Egg on my face.
I think it is high time for an advertisement category.
For those of you considering using slashdot for your company's amazing new product's free advertizing, knoock it off. It is annoying.
