I used this method in a very similar situation worked great
80gb disk 1gb Fat the rest EXT 3
you can now get the drivers for ext 3 for both windows and mac and put them in a everywhere compatable partition and then you are compatable with everyones computer without having to chase drivers for each new computer
If Intel start making graphics card with more power to compete with nvidia and ati there they will find a lot of Linux support as they are the only ones which currently have open source drivers http://intellinuxgraphics.org/
I'm all for supporting Intel move into graphics cards as long as they continue to help produce good linux drivers
Works really well, i use a shared mysql database throughout my house so all my stats playlists etc are all stored in the same place. I have about 100gb of media and it doesnt even blink. If you can use linux this is the best way to go.
the solution to your problem comes in the form of a little known software application from a vender called Microsoft.
The program is called Microsoft Access 97
:P
Symantec Ghost is one of the single most useful programs ever written
1) do a format with a windows partition and a data partition and do a clean windows install
2)install all the apps you generaly use
3)run mircrosofts powertoy tweakui and move all the important folders from your windows partition to your data partition
for example i move
Desktop
favorites
My docs...music...pics etc
ive also got batch files written to copy my media library files and other assorted usefull files to the data partition on every shutdown
4) run ghost and backup your system.
This solution has a number of advantages
*from a 4gb ghost image i can be back at my login screen in about 3and a half mins. Clean and crisp like windows installs always are:P (for the first few hours)
*any trials you intall after this point will have their 30day counters restarted when you ghost again
*if you really wanted you could have your machine ghost itself every night at say 5am that way its clean everyday without any hassles
Just an idea...
it works for me
good luck
Cwraig
i have music all over the place too, some ripped by media player and others just all over the place
i have a library of a >30gb and the best tool ive found is google destop search
want a track just throw in a few words and see what it comes up with
results in less then seconds
this guy specialises in this in aust
ive used him before he really knows his stuff
http://www.freenet-antennas.com/
he uses 802.11 standards over longer range then your average d-link or netgear AP
They must be some strong astronauts to carry all that in zero gravity

what do you mean whalers? where only catching these exotic creatures for "research" purposes...i promise...
i know it doesnt sound like a good idea but i began on Qbasic.
it provided a very basic introduction to loops, variables, randoms and triggers.
i know its not particularly practical but for starting with its the pick for me.
For a second lets consider whats most important in your first programming exercise. can you make the language say "hello world"
