For example, in a lot of financial applications, float would be good enough since 2 decimal places is enough.
Perhaps you should take some of theose classes you're advocating. Those of us who actually work in business applications never store account balances, invoice amounts and the like in floats. Ever.
All values of existing money (account balance and such) have two decimals
No they don't. Some currencies have no subunit at all. The Italian lira & Greek drachma were two well known examples that are (for the moment at least) defunct due to the euro, but there are others - the Japanese yen, for example. At less than 1 US cent, it doen't really need fractions.
The McDonald's jokes would be a lot funnier if McDonald's wasn't clearly culpable for the woman's burns due to the fact that they were selling the coffee at a temperature not only higher than the standard, but at a temperature that would cause the cup to deform like it was made out of tissue paper
... and worst of all, without a warning saying "don't grip this cup between your thighs while operating a motor vehicle" in big red letters.
everyone knows that the super caffinated video gamer will not hesitate to get the shotgun or chainsaw from out of the garage to start attacking everyone in sight.
That could certainly be his intent. However the question is only of theoretical interest, since to implement such a killing spree would require the capacity to 1) lift the aforementioned weapons 2) hold them by the appropriate end and 3) carry them more then ten yards without getting out of breath and/or hungry.
Note to self: ban geeks from gyms immediately. Note to self 2: first find a way to manage the mass outcry resulting from previous note.
who either cannot afford to license Windows Mobile or Symbian
A Symbian license is how much? IIRC It used to be 5 bucks for a PDA, 10 for a smartphone. And a smartphone sells for what? Even if it's doubled since then, if you consider it as a percentage it's not a dealbreaker.
Those of us who've gone beyond introductory level can see alternatives. One being that they could pass on the savings (partially or fully) by lowering prices, enabling them to poach customers from competitors, thereby increasing overall profits.
Or do you think Henry Ford sold the model T for the same price as a Rolls Royce?
But where the people live, and where they have the crops, are not close together. So globally it may balance out, but I don't think it will stop the increase of pollution in the urban areas.
Well, people who consume oxygen are also concentrated in places (called cities) and the plants that produce oxygen are mainly in other ones (called the countryside).
And yet the people in the cities don't seem to die on a regular basis through lack of oxygen.
I reckon the air moves around somehow. Maybe it's the birds flapping their wings.
Just because the consumer doesn't see the actual cost of the phone as a distinct line item doesn't make it irrelevant. The provider still factors it into their calculations of how much to rip you off ^H^H^H charge you per month.
Looks like a rehash of a (Horizon/Equinox) documentary I saw in about 1983, or James Gleik's Chaos book from about the same time.
Nothing (new) to see here, move along.
If spreading faster equalled changing faster you might have a point. If. I used a chemistry textbook that was over 30 years old when I was at school, and Chlorine was still a halogen, same as when it was printed.
That was only chemistry 1.0, though. Maybe 2.0 is more dynamic. Or the majority on wikipedia decided it should be reclassified as a lanthanidem ergo it is one.
Because the turtle's on fire?
I'm whooooshing you.
(Disclaimer: I am not Australian)
Don't ask what Microsoft can do for IE7; ask what IE7 can do for Microsoft.

Who? Me? Or him?

Probably true of reviewing too. At least for educational books, there are two roles - student & teacher - with different perspectives.

Even in that case. Though eight minutes isnt a very long time, I agree.
