Cringley gets all the readers all excited and focussed on conspiracy theories. In the meantime, he is cleverly crafting another slashdottable article that will have no other purpose than build his personal brand as tech's version of John Edwards. BTW, is anyone keeping track of his revelations?
I saw it more like a celebrity wedding. Stars (filmmakers or boxmakers) can always use more PR. Apple's bragging rights: Wow, a giant PC company is making iPods. HP's bragging rights: Yeah, we can be cool too. Which begs the question: why didn't HP brand it as hPod?
It looks like my government is at it again so I had
to comment:
1. Iraq - mustached leaders are evil and had to be dealt with. Dude should have shaved.
2. Iran - sounds way too similar to Iraq; may want to change name back to Persia to get off AOE radar.
Prince of Persia -- cool. Prince of Iran?
3. North Korea - synchronized marching men AND leader in Dr. Evil suit (not to forget his I-don't -care-what-you-think-attitude permed
hair)... come on ajoshi, you're just asking for it.
4. Leaping Seconds - you're next buddy; you've been causing way too much misery to the freedom enjoying nations around the world. Do you know how much anguish you cause the good American citizens year after year after year? Almost as bad as programming VHS VCRs.
5. Metric System - liters this and meters that?... why should
measurements have to make sense? Ohhhh yeahhh... that's right... you can run... but you can't hide...
Agreed. Apple is pretty smart. Way to go Apple. If Apple produces Intel boxes that will run OSX, Windows, and Linux, I would probably stop buying other brands.
Although I like seeing new challengers like Linspire to the OS sector, I often wonder how much these guys really believe what they say and how much is more for getting free PR for their own company. It looks like it worked for Linspire. I predict that Linspire will change it's name to Lapple and start producing boxes called Lackintosh and Lpod.
I'm sure that this has been stated before but I think that departmental changes -- or more likely, departmental addition of OSX to their Windows machines -- is the way to go. In the business world, almost everything appears to be centered around Windows but if say for example a marketing department preferred having Macs in addition to Windows PCs, then why not?
Only if it includes the pictures of him pretending to have heart attacks just
because Intel and AMD introduced faster chips. And articles must include his
overuse of the bold style.
I am a recruiter based out of Silicon Valley and IANAL, but AFAIK California is pretty cool with employees going wherever they want to go; we're a work-at-will state. I would be surprised if Microsoft wins this one if it's in California.
Is anyone shocked that Microsoft is not at the receiving end of a lawsuit?
1. Release anything on BitTorrent (or similar P2P network). 2. Get mentioned on/. (Get/.'d). 3. Instant brand building with the tech crowd. 4. Anything is better than no PR. 5.... 6. Profit!!!
I am currently helping a couple of friends market their music and scifi and plan to use this method (for advertising).
Woohoo! Someone gave me an Insightful point. My fortunes have changed. I should go buy a lotter ticket.
This reminds me of something completely unrelated: we should create a game within Slashdot. For lack of a better name, I am using Cubicles & Coffee Breaks. For those interested, please join me here:
That is one thing I never understood about why people would buy educational materials from people who would show you how to make millions. If you had a great thing going for you and your company, why would you sell this know-how to strangers rather than growing your own company and making yourself rich? You would keep the secret and make as much as you could before the rest of the competition catches up. It's obviously to make the 95%+ of future income on selling how-tos.
to the world of tomorrow!
Ha ha!

Not necessarily late to the party. MS might have been smart in keeping it quiet until Google came out so with MS introducing theirs, MS gets free PR.
and maybe not. Let's revisit this in 1 year and see what happened.
It's as if they want to fail as a business with such strange names. Why play games? Just rename the company to Bankruptcia and get it over with.

That is interesting too but that means that the system is not working and needs to be improved.
That is so funny. Maybe we're not part of the in crowd... yet. I notice that our thread has been modded down to the last.
Hehehe. I generally enjoy the /. crowd, desite groupthink, so that is why on my journal I was wondering why the bad karma.

I thought the same. Cindy Margolis interviews!
Congrats. Your fortunes have now changed for the better. Expect great things.
So we can expect Cindy Margolis to interview this entrepreneur at 2am to show us how we can all become millionaires by placing tiny little ads.
