I'm so bugged with this whole paptent issue. I will tell you why. I was once developing a IM Bot for MSN messenger using perl. I was almost towards the end of coding the bot. Thats when I hear that the IM bot technology is patented by ActiveBuddy. I had to stop development. I wish they had a better model to protect software inventions
They will be around for long. How can they leave when thier business model is:
1. Buy company that wrote code
2. Sit and rot
3. After years wake up and sue companies who used the code
4. Make a fool of themselves
and now..

but before i get flamed let me clarify:
MS defends their patents only passively. But how can we be sure that they wont pull the plug 10 yrs later. I hope they scrap this whole software patent thing
Well.. what i wrote was my view on such a issue. I also wrote that i'm not sure about the authenticity which means i wanted people to research the topic and not believe it as it is (i guessed that it must be a rumor). And the post that you linked (which proves that it was indeed a rumor) was not yet published when i started writing my post. I'm sorry if I aired the rumor
Its disgusting as to how some people make money by stealing from the very people who decided to help them out. I'm yet to do my research on the authenticity of this news bit.
