If this really works like a telescope, then wouldn't that mean the display would have a very low viewable angle? After all, a telescope is just a telephoto lens. And telephoto lenses have a narrow field-of-view.

So, you'd probably have to look directly at the display from a perpendicular angle. Move a little to the side, and you're going to lose the image altogether, or have it severely degraded. LCDs are already bad enough in this respect.

Arrington & Co. appear to be completely naive about the realities of running a business or building technology products. If they even manage to create a prototype, how are they going to deal with support, with legal compliance and defense against outside legal threats, just to name a few issues? Are they really going to get engineers and designers good enough on a volunteer basis?

The weirdest part about this is the volunteer aspect. Does anybody think they are going to find enough quality volunteers to devote a significant portion of their lives to this? It's not like volunteering for humanitarian causes, or your pet political issue. You'd be volunteering to help someone make a gadget. If they get their beloved gadget, they probably aren't going to have time to use it, if they then have to spend all their time working for free to support the damn thing. Wouldn't it be a lot more efficient just to work a few hours more, and buy a more expensive device made by a serious company that has the ability to deliver and support the device?

Somebody has to make a profit to be able to continue investing in the platform and keep the business running. And if somebody is making a profit, they they are basically exploiting the volunteer labor.

Poorly thought-out plans like this that involve such massive amounts of volunteer labor really piss me off. It amounts to laziness wasting a lot of people's time. "Hey everybody, come do this work for free, because I couldn't be bothered with the effort of making a viable business plan."

No. The Greenpeace propaganda referred to only takes into account public statements from companies (such as on their website) about how committed to the environment the company is. It doesn't take into account any actual environmental impact that the company actually has.

In short, it's a farce. A company that has lots of press releases saying how they respect the environment, but has wasteful practices, scores better than a company that has less wasteful practices, but doesn't brag about it in press releases.

Yeah, but they're damn frustrating, because they are so often damn near perfect, but the lack of a few trivial features puts them just short of the "killer app". And I can't think for the life of me, why they don't just add those trivial features. Google Maps and Google Earth are prime examples of this (and I pay for Google Earth, unlike other Google products). They have all kinds of cool features which I don't really need, but lack the ones I really want. Yet the "needful" features are far more trivial to implement than the "cool" ones.

Reminds me a lot of Apple, but slightly inverted. Somehow Apple's missing features are easier to live with, even if they are more "significant" than Google's missing features.
