Is there really any point distinguishing the two any longer? Those few people who are still buying desktops, are increasingly concerned about compactness, noise and heat dissipation. Especially as the use of media centres and living-room computers is on the rise. Even the other remaining segment of desktop users - graphics, audio, video and other creative producers - want pleasant work environments and quiet studios, even as they demand more more power.

Watching a quick commercial is a fair trade for being able to see the interview for free, and for the bandwidth it took to let me see that video for free.

This is all advertising. It's not like the content of the video was informative or useful. They are supposed to be trying to entice you to buy a product. It should cost them money. I have to pay for the bandwidth to receive the advertisement. Why should the advertisement have another advertisement embedded in it to pay for the main advertisement?

Of course, the bigger issue here is slashdot. The acticle said that it was a FUNNY video, which it was definitely not. I would normally never click on such a link, but because the author gave his/her approval, I decided to watch it. But it was not funny in the least. It doesn't feel very good to be tricked into watching advertising by a site that is supposed to contain news.

I didn't believe it at first, but this confirms to me that slashdot is paid to run advertisements disguised as news articles.

Seems that when the US censors free speech, it's never the government's fault. It's the individual voter's fault for letting the government get away with it. But when the same thing happens in Europe, it's "evil socialist governments" who are at fault, not the individual voters.

Nevermind the complexities of the electoral systems and how much one's vote can actually change entrenched systems. Europe bad! America good!

But do you think that Muslims or atheists would also be allowed to display their philosophies like this in a public place? the separation of church and state applies to all religions, not just Christianity. The thing is that other religions generally don't try to use government resources to evangelize. Christians are free to say whatever they want on their own dollar. Why should government be involved? Government is about running the country and its infrastructure, not promoting beliefs.

It doesn't matter. You have no evidence of any examples of anything you are talking about.

Disingenuous, because they are not comparable situations. Speed limits can be set differently, based on the terrain. these days where I live, they even have speed limits that change (LED sign) depending on traffic conditions. Anything can be eroticized. People have fetishes over all kinds of things. Humans are very creative when it comes to sex. It really is arbitrary, and there are no limits on what "can be eroticized." I mean, some people even find anti-eroticism to be erotic.

On another level, who said that BDSM has to be about anything "erotic" anyway? Not all pleasure stems from eros. They may have other reasons to participate.
