I'm a current TWC customer, and my neighborhood/fiberhood just met the signup requirement for Google Fiber. As I wait for the construction to be completed, I'm really thinking about the future of the internet. How can companies TWC and Comcast continue to thrive? Everyone on my block is openly negative about their service. Fiber-hoods keep rolling out synchronous gigabit Internet. Construction crews are getting much faster at installing fiber conduit with these strange pneumatic hole burrowing machines, which is no doubt contributing to other ISP's are following suit with an increasing nomber of workers that know the tools of the trade well. My Dad is getting fiber at his backwoods cabin in the Lake of the Ozarks!!
How long before these jokers stop fooling themselves?
When I roll into the TWC office to return their gear and pay my final bill, I'll be pulling a wagon full of pennies, and justice will be served!
Sure, Node.js and Java are competing in the same space; the bigger question is how? The answer to that question is Single Page Applications, or SPA. Single Page Applications are becoming very popular with new developers (I believe) because they just make better sense. For FAR too long, Java EE architects have done their very best to mitigate the separation of Client & Server. Take JSF, for Example: the entire JSF UI development experience almost lets you forget that the UI and the server context are in the same memory space. But reality frequently comes crashing down the moment you step off of the beaten path.
Enter the SPA! Angular, Backbone, etc. all rely on RESTful API's, and DO NOT CARE if it is Node.js, Java,.NET, etc. SPA’s make a full and clean break between the Client and Server realm, then only thing they share is the common midpoint of the RESTful interface; making fight less about Node.js vs Java, and more about distinguishing what you need from a back end server.
My general assertion: Node.js will continue to gain popularity and displace many competitors. Java will going to continue to dominate the enterprise market for years to come, especially with the support of specialized frameworks and utilities like Spring, Maven, Hudson, and Junit. (honorable mention for gradle)
If they are gonna destroy the legacy of star trek, they might as well do it right. THIS time if a Pon Farr delirious vulcan female is stumbling around the ship, begging every male she runs into to "Help" her, the last thing I wanna hear is: Oh, I couldn't possibly to THAT!
Usually the term "Rocket", and its derivatives, are reserved for describing objects/situations that are powerful, destructive, reckless, etc.; none of which I consider even relatively gentile. What next, gentile dvda?
I'm surprised the number isn't higher. New neighborhoods are lighting up with Google Fiber every month. I'm just pissed I'm going to have to wait until next year!

My wife is a Christian and I'm an Atheist. We get into conflicts when ever our children give open questions about God, Church, Religion. Frequently, the children seem to agree with me that evidence is required for belief, and that the burden of evidence is on the Theists side. Am I wrong to defend their fragile beginnings? I try to maintain that no one knows the truth, and all we have is evidence.

Regardless of the outcome, NASA has every reason to continue to enjoy the expertise and efficiencies of these smaller yet agile companies, such as SpaceX and Sierra Nevada. I watched a recent video of Elon articulating that, while not winning this contract would be disappointing, SpaceX would continue it's relationship with NASA. I think he's doing a great job of looking down the long road and not hyper-focusing on the immediate.
Oh boo-hoo Snydeq! You're just pissed cause nobody will explain to you what AOP means. Face it buddy: Spring & EE are gonna be here for a long long time, so get out your Kleenex and get prepare for a long and satisfying cry! When you're finished, go learn EE/Spring so you can go to work with the big boys.

45 times? Where did you get this BASELESS figure from? I work with plenty of Indians here in my US Govt contract, who are getting paid American wages, and do top notch work. So take your pick, Indian Developers in America can do the job at American wages, OR Indian developers in India can do the Job, and Indian wages.
here's some advice for you:
1) Ignore Inflammatory Sensationalism
2) Accept the fact that the United States government MUST find ways to do more with less, thanks to the sequester.
3) It IS cheaper, MUCH cheaper, to outsource work to a place where wages are cheaper.
Again, I'm happy to see DC being smart about the money they spend.
Hardly "disgraceful", but yes, it would be considerably more expensive, from a labor perspective, for an American contractor to fulfill the contract.
India's per capita GDP: $1510 VS United States per capita GDP: $48100
so at a ration of 31:1, the contract might cost more than 1.5 billion.
Personally, I'm glad they are looking for cost cutting measure where they can.

Meh. I would rather see these kinds of debates than the world series...

Elon Musk will surly screen for these types before letting them on the ship. I'm Hopeful Mars will be an Oasis of Atheism.
I will relish the day when this religious insanity is a unfashionable as stone washed jeans from the 80's.
Ahh... Go shove it up your... ;)
Shove it up your ass!
